Selena Gomez has shown us she’s a true performer on stage, acing her acting roles (she’s actually filming The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel), and she’s doing really well as a businesswoman too. Rare Beauty brand is a big hit, especially among young people.
But what stands out about the «Love On» singer is her honesty about her mental health. She’s been open about her struggles over the years, never hiding them. In fact, for the past few years until recently, she took a break from the spotlight to focus on her well-being, both physically and mentally. Her fans appreciated this, as they’re most concerned about her emotional well-being.
It’s widely known that Selena has gone through periods of anxiety and depression. She opened up about this in her documentary My Mind & Me. Additionally, she reveals how in 2016 she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and, to make matters worse, in 2017 she underwent a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with lupus in 2015.
Now, Selena is in a much better place and wants to share the techniques that have helped her improve her mental health, using her platform to raise awareness.

The global superstar recently sat down with the Today Media Outlet to discuss the valuable lessons she’s learned about taking care of her mental health. Since her teenage years, when she shot to fame through her role on Disney Channel, she’s been a constant subject of media attention.
Additionally, Selena has been in highly publicized relationships (like with Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and currently Benny Blanco) that have often sparked controversies.
One of the strategies professionals have suggested to Gomez over the years to improve her mental well-being is to take breaks from social media. She’s taken this advice on several occasions, finding it beneficial. She tends to step back from the internet when needed and gradually returns when she feels ready.
And if years ago being famous was tough due to the paparazzi, today, with social media, it’s even harder. Selena’s relationship with social media hasn’t always been great: “I’ve turned off comments on all my photos; only my friends can comment. It helps me set boundaries and improves my well-being.” The actress herself admitted that this move, blocking haters from commenting on her life, has made her feel stronger and improved her life.
Having a good circle of supportive people around her has also been crucial: “At the end of the day, knowing who I am and having people around me who truly represent me […] I’m not better or worse than anyone else. I’m just a person, navigating through life one day at a time.”
