Daddy Yankee Announces His Return to Music with a Well-Known Hollywood Actor

Although the Puerto Rican artist announced his retirement from music, he would continue dedicating himself to it in one way or another

Several of Daddy Yankee’s peers in the industry have said over time that although the Puerto Rican artist announced his retirement from music, he would continue dedicating himself to it in one way or another. Yankee announced in March 2022 that he was hanging up his boots in the industry, and on July 9th, he surprised all his fans with the announcement of his comeback.

That’s right. Daddy is back, and he’s doing so this Thursday, July 10th at 12:00 AM E.T. Sonríele is the title of the song we will get to hear, and it will mark a before and after in his long and legendary career. But that’s not all. The announcement of his return came alongside a well-known Hollywood actor: Anthony Ramos.

The Gasolina singer posted a video on his social media where Ramos is shown loudly calling out to him at his front door. Daddy Yankee comes out, tells him he’s back, and they leave together to somewhere. Could Anthony be the one accompanying the artist in the music video for this new song? We’ll have to wait to find out.

The story of reggaeton can’t be told without Daddy Yankee. The artist started by taking his freestyle performances to the streets of Puerto Rico, and little by little, those sounds derived from reggae and catchy lyrics began to win over more and more people. He, along with other artists, began to write the history of a genre that today knows no limits or borders. A genre with more than 30 years of history that has already established itself internationally.

That’s why the news of his return has been celebrated by many, including some industry peers. “The one who made reggaeton global!! Thanks for the inspiration!! Boss,” says J Balvin in the comments on the post. “DY the inspiration,” adds Justin Quiles. Others see his comeback as a return of old-school reggaeton as well. We’ll have to wait until Thursday, July 10th to listen to Sonríele.
