Bad Bunny keeps making history with DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. The album isn’t just breaking records—once again topping global streaming charts like his previous works—but it’s also having a big social and cultural impact.

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio tackles issues that hit close to home for Puerto Ricans. From the longing many emigrants feel to return, to calling out the gentrification affecting the island. These themes have sparked major conversations, not just in Puerto Rico but around the world. Topics like protecting the island’s biosphere. Which is home to endangered species like the Puerto Rican Crested Toad (Sapo Concho) and the Coquí Frog, are more relevant than ever.

Bad Bunny in Church?

What no one expected, though, was for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS to take center stage in a church service—but it did. A priest in western Puerto Rico surprised everyone by bringing up Bad Bunny’s new album in his sermon. He specifically mentioned the song ‘LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,’ where Benito delivers a powerful critique of U.S. imperialism and its impact on the island.

“A great Puerto Rican, known as ‘the bunny,’ has given us a meaningful gift with his latest album. He reminds us, ‘Don’t let go of the flag, don’t forget the Lerolai. Because I don’t want them to do to you what happened to Hawaii.’”

The priest used this verse from Bad Bunny’s song to deliver a heartfelt message: “If we’re willing to lose Aguadilla and its beauty, then let’s allow them to do to us what they did to Hawaii. But if we’re not, whether we are Catholic, Evangelical, believers, or even atheists, we must come together to defend who we are: Puerto Ricans here. Puerto Ricans even on the moon, Puerto Ricans alive, and Puerto Ricans who have passed on. And if Saint Peter allows it, when we reach heaven, let’s bring the Puerto Rican flag with us so we can say proudly, ‘I am Puerto Rican,’ and Saint Peter will know it.”

This emotional speech quickly went viral, with thousands of people, especially Puerto Ricans, sharing it on social media. It’s clear that Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS has struck a chord so deeply that it feels like it has even reached the heavens.
