Every year, several media outlets reviews and lists the top albums of the year. Even though 2024 isn’t finished yet, we’re halfway through, and we’ve already listened to a wide range of new albums. Some of the albums making waves as the best so far include Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine, and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, among others.

However, Latin talent is immense, and in recent years, we’ve seen a big rise in Latin and Spanish music. Last year, standout albums included Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), Peso Pluma’s Génesis, and Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana, among others. This year, we already have 5 albums by Latin artists that are considered among the best of 2024 according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Orquídeas Kali Uchis

Orquídeas is the Uchis’ fourth studio album and her second entirely in Spanish. The album’s tracklist is notable for its diverse range of rhythms, from R&B, pop to merengue. It includes unexpected but successful collaborations, such as her song «Igual Que Un Ángel» featuring corrido singer Peso Pluma.

According to the singer, she chose the title of her new project because of what the national flower of her native Colombia symbolizes. “I’ve always been fascinated by this flower. The album draws inspiration from its timeless, mysterious, mystical, powerful, graceful, and sensual qualities. With this mix of energy and freshness, I aim to redefine the portrayal of Latina women in the music industry.

Music Session.»

Shakira has also revealed the reason why she chose to name this album this way: “Writing each song, I reconstructed myself. Singing them, my tears turned into diamonds and my vulnerability into resilience.” This album not only helped Shakira move forward but also deeply resonated with millions of fans who connect with her music.
