Even though HBO renewed Euphoria for a third season midway through the second season, and it was set to premiere in 2025, there are rumors circulating that the series might not go ahead as planned. The production of the upcoming season had faced significant delays before, partly due to strikes in Hollywood, and also because of the unexpected death of one of its main actors, Angus Cloud (Fez), who sadly passed away in July 2023. Additionally, the show’s huge popularity led to most of its cast becoming famous, making it harder to coordinate their schedules for production.

Earlier this month, Sydney Sweeney announced her return to Euphoria. Nonetheless, according to the film blog World of Reel, they’ve stated that HBO has canceled the third season of the series, “I’m hearing that the planned third season of Sam Levinson’s ‘Euphoria’ has been totally scrapped. It’s not happening.” However, an HBO spokesperson informed Variety that “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

The Idol: Responsible for the Delay of Euphoria?

Last year, in June 2023, Sam Levinson worked on the drama series The Idol, which delves into the music industry and features the singer The Weeknd. However, the series faced criticism from both critics and viewers due to the controversies it stirred. HBO even cut an episode, making it shorter than planned. It’s evident that the series was canceled before even thinking about a second season.

Now, because of this, some people think it might be why Euphoria is delayed. Both shows have had their fair share of controversies. Sadly, Euphoria fans will have to wait to know if it’s postponed or canceled. Jacob Elordi, during an interview in January, said they might have to speed things up or else he’ll be too old for his role. He joked, “I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” he said. “I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”
