Jackson “Jacko” Graham, a rising star in both surfing and Australian rules football, has died at the age of 22. His sudden passing on Wednesday has left his family, friends, teammates, and fellow surfers around the world in shock.
Queensland Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Graham’s death, and no further investigation is underway.
Graham was a prodigy in the waves from an early age. At just 14, he became champion of the Palm Beach Boardriders Open Club. He later made his mark nationally, winning Queensland’s Under-19 Mark Richards Shield in 2019 alongside Joshua Boyle while attending Palm Beach Currumbin State High School. The previous year, he was part of the team that claimed the state under-16 title.
In 2020, Graham joined the World Surf League junior circuit, quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to his bold style and infectious personality. Tributes have poured in from fellow surfers, including Callum Robson, Liam O’Brien, Micah Margieson, Thomas Carvalho, Tim Bain, and Japanese stars Toy Tanaka and Sein Fujimoto.

Outside the water, Graham was an accomplished athlete in the QAFL (Queensland Australian Football League) with the Palm Beach Currumbin Australian Football Club. Over his career, he played 174 games for the team, including 19 last season, when he scored five goals. He first joined the junior ranks in 2011 and worked his way up to the senior squad, earning the admiration of teammates and fans alike.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support his family during this difficult time.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend, Jackson Graham,” read a statement from his football club.
“Jackson was a valued member of our team, known for his skill, work ethic, and warm character. His passing has left a profound impact on all who knew him.”
The fundraiser organizers added:
“This campaign has been created for those wishing to contribute in Jackson’s memory. All proceeds will go directly to his family, in accordance with their wishes. Any amount, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated. Your generosity will help ease some of the practical burdens for Jackson’s loved ones as they navigate the days ahead. On behalf of everyone at SDF, thank you for your kindness and support.”
Graham’s legacy as both a fearless surfer and a dedicated teammate will be remembered by all who knew him—on the beach, on the field, and beyond.
