The Latin Grammy Awards 2023 made history by choosing Seville, Spain, as their host city for the first time ever, breaking away from their usual location in the United States. The event was a grand celebration in the heart of Andalusia, featuring a multitude of musical performances, thousands of guests, entertainment celebrities, an award ceremony, and a stunning red carpet.

A Night Packed with Live Music

At 10:30 PM (with punctuality reminiscent of British precision), the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions in Seville (FIBES) hosted the grand awards ceremony, where the winners of the top 10 categories of these iconic Spanish-language music awards were unveiled. Rosalía opened the ceremony with a moving rendition of Rocío Jurado’s «Se nos rompió el amor.»

Throughout the evening, the stage was graced by performances featuring Shakira‘s «Acróstico» (with Milán and Sasha), Carín León, Juanes with «El Gris» (Best Pop/Rock Album), Alejandro Sanz with «Corazón Partío,» Sebastián Yatra with «El Vagabundo» and «Energía Bacana,» Juanes and Rauw Alejandro with «Baby Hello».

Edgar Barrera

Many of them shared a common thread: collaborating with one of the evening’s major winners, Edgar Barrera. He was the most nominated artist of the edition with an astonishing 13 nominations and secured the awards for Best Composer and Best Producer of the Year for his work with artists such as Maluma, Alejandro Sanz, Camilo, and Karol G.

2023 Latin Grammy Award Winners

Among the first honorees were Latin music legends like Bad Bunny, who secured two awards for his collaborations with Eladio Carrión (Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song) and Grupo Frontera (Best Regional Mexican Song). The Puerto Rican artist matched the achievements of Natalia Lafourcade, who dominated the singer-songwriter album and song categories and would later conclude the evening with the Record of the Year for De todas las flores.

Quevedo and Bizarrap received their accolade for their historic session 52 as Best Urban Song. “I want to thank everyone for taking the song to new heights. I hope it serves as an example that you can start from scratch and fulfill your dreams,” expressed the Canary Islands-based solo artist.

Karol G and Shakira won for «TQG» as Best Urban Fusion Song (the first of several awards they would later receive: Karol G’s Best Album of the Year and Best Urban Album, as well as Shakira’s Best Pop Song and Song of the Year).
