As we mentioned before, Barbie marks the inaugural release from Mattel Films. With a vision to create movies inspired by their toys, games, and brands, Mattel Films appointed acclaimed film producer Robbie Brenner to lead the division.

A recent New Yorker article reveals that the company has 45 movies in development. However, only 17 of these projects have been officially announced thus far.

The company got also inspired by Hasbro’s Transformers successful and popular movie franchise, and even though they’ve insisted that their movies aren’t meant to boost toy sales, they surely will.

Among the future movies that Mattel is planning to release, are ‘Polly Pocket’, ‘Hot Wheels’, ‘He-Man’, and even a film of the famous board game ‘Uno’.

Hot Wheels, He-man and Vin Diesel

The upcoming Hot Wheels movie will be directed by the famous filmmaker JJ Abrams and is expected to have a «scary and dark» vibe. There’s still no planned release date for the project because it’s still in the early stages of development, meaning that it will probably take a few years before the movie is completed and ready to be released to the public.

In the film about fighting robots, the main role will be played by the popular actor Vin DieselAs for the He-Man adaptation, it will be directed by the brothers Aaron and Adam Nee, that directed the movie The Lost City, featuring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

Polly Pocket

Polly Pocket has been also one of the classic children’s toys that has provided countless hours of fun, offering a miniature world to create stories from kids’ imagination, and after the success that Barbie is having, Mattel wants the same for its miniature dolls. Lena Dunham will write and direct, and Lily Collins will be the protagonist.

I’m so excited to partner with this inspiring powerhouse of a team. Developing this project with Robbie, Lena, Mattel and MGM to reintroduce Polly in a fun, modern way has been such a treat. As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen»said actress Lily Collins.

Barney

For the iconic purple dinosaur things will be a bit different, for its version will be «surreal» and «A24 type». Daniel Kaluuya, known for acting in «Black Panther», «Get Out» and «Widows», will be the producer.
