We can say that 2023 has been the year of Shakira’s comeback. But everything happens for a reason, and the announcement of her breakup with Gerard Piqué was accompanied by a return to her true passion, the one that many had missed.
The Barranquilla native, who’s one of the most influential and most listened to Latin artists in the whole world, poured her story and everything she experienced during this difficuly experience into a collection of songs that served as an outlet because they allowed her to express all the pain she felt about what had happened. Many may not have understood her, but many more have turned her into their inspiration and made songs like her session with Bizarrap into anthems of female empowerment.
As expected, she couldn’t be absent from our annual awards gala. She will receive a LOS40 Golden Music Award Santander 2023, as announced at the nominees’ dinner, where the names of those who will be at the Wizink Center on November 3rd were revealed.
However, that isn’t the only surprise, since the real icing on the cake is that the Colombian legend will be performing live from Miami for the highly anticipated event. We can’t wait to see what the Barranquilla native has prepared for us!
Shakira’s achievements speak for themselves. She has no competition; she has the most number one hits in the history of LOS40 among female artists, and she has received the most LOS40 Music Awards statuettes. Without a doubt, she is the most significant Latin artist of all time. Before Karol G, María Becerra, Emilia, Tini, Danna Paola, Becky G, or Nathy Peluso, there was Shakira.
It was in 1991 when a 13-year-old girl from Barranquilla recorded «Magia,» her first album. A title that was prophetic of everything that would come later. She’s a chameleon, evolving and adapting to the changes in the music industry while always staying at the top.
Only she can boast of performing at the Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez, and her career is full of achievements and evidence that women also rule in the music industry. Let’s not forget that Spain won the World Cup with the rhythm of «Waka Waka.»
She has earned the respect of her fans and her fellow professionals. Her voice is unmistakable, her hip movements as well. Her leadership is unquestionable.
And despite living outside of Colombia for a long time, she has not forgotten her roots. A notable example was her collaboration with Carlos Vives, «La Bicicleta,» which took her to some of the places from her childhood. In Barranquilla, she even has a statue.
Since she met Gerard Piqué at the 2010 World Cup, her life revolved around him and building a family together. In 2013, Milan came into their lives, and two years later, Sasha. She raised them in Barcelona, but after their breakup, she has taken them to Miami.
During their first decade of life, she focused on them and shared her passions with them, which is why it wasn’t difficult to see her surfing or skateboarding in recent years. They have also joined her in her musical vocation, and in «Acróstico,» we could hear them singing and playing the piano.
All eyes are now on her as she has returned to Miami and put her career back in the spotlight. There is great anticipation for everything she does, and many are eagerly waiting for what comes next.
It’s clear that whatever she does next will be even better, because Shakira has shown that she can always surpass herself. She is innovative, has immense talent, and an unparalleled vision of the industry. In other words, the Golden Music Award 2023 couldn’t be more deserved.
