We have seen Shakira in recent days shine in Billboard’s first-ever Mujeres Latinas en la Música event, delivering a powerful speech while accepting the Women of the Year Award. Now, she has announced a new song on her social media, ‘ACRÓSTICO’, which will come out in the next few hours, at 8 PM ET.
The Meaning Behind the Title
The term ‘acróstico’ (acrostic) refers to a poetic composition containing letters (at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of its lines) with which a word or phrase can be formed. Taking this into account, we wonder if this new release will be a new masterclass about dropping hits.
However, the cover image of the song, two little chicks coming out of their nest under the watchful eye of a mother bird, seems to refer to the personal situation with her children. They have recently left Barcelona, their home until last month, and moved to Miami as the final part of the separation process from their father, Spanish former soccer player Gerard Piqué.
During the last weeks in which several leaks appeared about what could be the new album project of the artist from Barranquilla, there was no reference to ‘Acróstico,’ so we could be facing a new song created as a result of this huge change in their lives.
Working In The Shadows
What is clear is that Shakira continues to work non-stop on her music in a moment of creative explosiveness where she is finding inspiration in her personal situation and her role as a mother, artist, woman…
It’s worth noting that for several weeks, there have been rumors that Shakira’s most imminent release would be ‘Copa vacía’, a song even confirmed by Manuel Turizo. In fact, both stars shot the music video some time ago in different locations in Manresa (Spain), so the release of the single seemed to be confirmed.
However, although Shakira continues to add songs to her new album project, we have already heard half a dozen singles without a confirmed title or release date.
In any case, everything seems to be ready for the arrival of ‘Acróstico’, and her followers have no doubt that it will be a new hit. This is evident from the various comments on social media, where, as usual, there is no shortage of jokes: «Clara-mente pinta bien», «otro éxito musical en camino», «sigue facturando», «se viene con todo mañana», «me va a dar algo con esta mujer» or «mamá de Los pollitos» were some of the most popular.
