Rosalía Shares How It Feels to Be on Set With Her Ex, Hunter Schafer

The two are now crossing paths professionally in season 3 of Euphoria

The relationship between Rosalía and Hunter Schafer was never really a secret — as friends, that is. It wasn’t until 2024 that it was officially confirmed they had also been romantically involved.

In 2024, Rosalía revealed that the two had dated for five months back in 2019.
“There’s been speculation for a long time. Part of us wanted to put an end to all of that, and another part was like, ‘Why? It’s nobody’s business.’ But in the end, it’s something I’m happy to share. And I think she feels the same way,” she told GQ.

The rumors first started in 2019, when they were frequently seen together in Los Angeles — going for walks, shopping for furniture, getting smoothies, laughing together — all of which showed a special chemistry. At that year’s Billboard Awards, the Catalan singer even thanked Schafer on stage.

In 2023, the release of ‘Tuya’ led to speculation that the song was inspired by Schafer, since the lyrics reference a woman: “Only for tonight I’m yours, yours. Only for tonight you’re mine, mine.”
And in 2024 — as we now know — it turned out to be true.

Rosalía Talks to ELLE

Now, the singer briefly revisits the topic in the September cover story of ELLE U.S. During the interview, journalist Suzy Exposito asks her about her past relationships. Including the one she had with Schafer.

“When I ask Rosalía if the experience put pressure on her to publicly define her sexuality, queer or otherwise, she shakes her head.” writes Exposito.
Rosalía answers clearly: “No, I do not pressure myself. I think of freedom. That’s what guides me.”

Although Rosalía doesn’t go into detail, Schafer had already mentioned that they’re still on good terms. The actress revealed that they actually spoke the day before the GQ interview to agree on publicly confirming their relationship and finally ending the speculation. “I have beautiful friendships with people I’ve dated. Rosalía is family, no matter what,” she said.

Beyond their personal connection, the two are now also crossing paths professionally. Rosalía is set to appear in season 3 of Euphoria — where Schafer is one of the main cast members — with the premiere currently expected in 2026.

The singer highlighted how excited she is to be working under the direction of Sam Levinson, the show’s creator, who also praised her work:
“I love unleashing her on a scene, I let her play with the words, the emotions, in English and Spanish. I never want to tell her what to do first, because her natural instincts are so fascinating, charismatic, and funny. Every scene we shoot, I’m behind the camera smiling.”

On the personal side, Rosalía is currently in a relationship with German actor and singer Emilio Sakraya, after dating Jeremy Allen White between October 2023 and July 2024. Her most publicized relationship was with Rauw Alejandro, which ended after two years.

Schafer, meanwhile, dated musician Dominic Fike from 2022 to 2023, ending things after discovering he had cheated. The actress has said that she’s currently single and focusing on her healing process.
