Residente is one of the most influential figures in the history of Spanish-language hip-hop, impacting international audiences with his socially charged lyrics.
With a career spanning 20 years, he remains true to his ideas and rejects industry hypocrisy. After a six-year hiatus, the former Calle 13 member returns with his (possibly final) studio album, «Las Letras Ya No Importan,» addressing industry issues and pretense.
The highly anticipated studio work is set to be released on February 22. In the announcement video featuring Residente and Spanish actress Najwa Nimri («Money Heist,» «Locked Up»), Nimri plays his psychologist, guiding him through an ideal scenario where hits last eight minutes, silly songs and TikTok dances are obsolete, influencers don’t exist, and artists embrace authenticity.
Hace mucho que no salgo.. No tengo los mismos ánimos que hace 20 años. Quiero hacer otras cosas hace tiempo. Quiero hacer cine, escribir un libro, quiero no tener que salir de gira, quiero estar con mi hijo mucho mas, no quiero hacer entrevistas, quiero volver a dibujar, quiero… pic.twitter.com/F5AjAAw2t8

Residente takes the opportunity to reflect on his fans, expressing a desire for change in his life, including exploring cinema, writing a book, spending more time with his son, avoiding tours, and pursuing music for pleasure rather than necessity. Despite conflicting feelings, he announces the album’s release on February 22.
Is this a farewell? Only time will tell as we await «Las Letras Ya No Importan.»
