Nicki Nicole Drops Breakup Song «Ojos Verdes» After Split with Peso Pluma: Meaning & English Lyrics

The music video could be a reference to a song she shares with her ex-partner

Nicki Nicole has just released her song «Ojos Verdes,» which had already generated a lot of anticipation due to the posts the singer shared on her Instagram. She included captions like, “Who are you going to deceive, who are you going to lie to, saying you don’t miss me”. “Good luck finding me in other green eyes”. “I know you dream of being able to change things, you regret it, and you die to see me.” She even changed the caption of another photo to: “I know you’re with someone else but thinking of me and giving them the kisses that you once gave me.”

Clearly, she was hyping up her new song, but it got everyone asking: who’s it about? We were all taken aback by the sudden breakup between the Argentine trap artist and the corridos tumbados singer, Peso Pluma, back in February. But it’s the way the split went down that’s got everyone so curious about this story.

Let’s Rewind a Few Months When…

La Doble P and Nicole were seen together at several events where the Mexican singer proudly flaunted their relationship. However, things took a turn when a video surfaced showing Peso Pluma holding hands with another woman. This clip went so viral that it inevitably caught Nicki’s attention, and she announced their breakup on her Instagram.

Since then, Peso Pluma hasn’t commented on the matter, but we’ve seen him with another woman at Coachella. Nicki, on the other hand, briefly mentioned in a recent interview that ‘relationships end,’ but she hasn’t delved into the topic further. However, being the artists they are, they often communicate through their art. In other words, through music.

‘Ojos Verdes’ Music Video

While Nicki doesn’t call out anyone in particular in the song, there might be a nod to the music video for «Por Las Noches,» where she teamed up with Peso Pluma, and red roses play a significant role. In that video, ‘La Doble P’ even wears white while holding a red rose, similar to Nicki’s portrayal in «Ojos Verdes.»

English Lyrics

[Intro]

I know you dream of being able to change things
You regret it and you’re dying to see me
But, baby, it doesn’t hurt me anymore, the roses have withered
Good luck finding me in other green eyes

[Chorus]

But the thing is, I brought out the best in you
And you realized the day I left
Who are you going to deceive? Who are you going to lie to
Saying you don’t miss me?
I know you’re with someone else, but think of me
And you give her the kisses I once gave you
Who are you going to deceive? Who are you going to lie to
Saying you don’t miss me?

[Post-Chorus]

(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
You’re going to regret it
(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
When you see me around
(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
You’re going to have to pretend
When you see me face to face

[Verse]

I know it bothers you
That when you call me, there’s no answer
And that forgetting you didn’t require alcohol or a party
It hurts you that for me, you’re in the past
And that you think of me every time you lay with her
I wish you the best because you’ve already lost me
But I wish you well with what you’ve got
I’ve already forgiven you, but don’t come back
I’ve closed the door to your love

[Bridge]

People tell me
That they see you down, don’t play innocent
Good luck finding me in other green eyes

[Chorus]

But the thing is, I brought out the best in you
And you realized the day I left
Who are you going to deceive? Who are you going to lie to
Saying you don’t miss me?
I know you’re with someone else, but think of me
And you give her the kisses I once gave you
Who are you going to deceive? Who are you going to lie to
Saying you don’t miss me? (Come on, NICKI)

[Outro]

(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
You’re going to regret it
(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
When you see me around
(Ay, ay, ay, ay)
You’re going to have to pretend
When you see me face to face.
