Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived, the 2024 Met Gala! A hihgly anticipated night where celebrities and jet setters shine like never before, if possible. The night of nights for glamour, luxury, and eccentricity, the Super Bowl of fashion.
The event took place this Monday, May 6th, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, led by Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and co-chaired by big names like Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, and Bad Bunny. But these last ones weren’t the only Latin stars to illuminate the evening.
It’s no surprise that with the unstoppable triumph of Latin music, its main exponents have become protagonists at every event they attend. And although some eagerly awaited Latin stars were missing from the gala like Peso Pluma, Anitta, J Balvin, or Maluma, the truth is that those who attended captured the spotlight.
As we previously announced on LOS40 USA, Karol G met all possible requirements to make her big debut this year at the 2024 Met Gala after the incredible global success achieved with Mañana Será Bonito (2023), her history-making album. So the one from Barranquilla had a great opportunity to shine in a big way and she seized it.
Karol took the Met Gala theme, «The Garden of Time,» literally and appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art completely dressed up like an elf, with pointy ears, and a dramatic crystal dress by Marc Jacobs. A customized model for the Bichota, with exaggerated shapes that reminded us of 16th century can-cans. To top off the look, the artist wore a long platinum blonde mane, crowned with a diamond tiara.
The singer of «Puntería» didn’t stick too closely to the theme, but that didn’t mean she was going to have a less spectacular entrance. Shakira surprised all attendees with an impressive red dress with puffy sleeves and an extremely long train that happened to be by a Latin designer. None other than the Venezuelan Carolina Herrera.
As an essential guest in recent editions of the Met Gala and, this time, part of the event’s organization, Bad Bunny couldn’t miss this year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Puerto Rican wanted to pay homage to his country with a navy blue tailored suit that outlined with garnet lines the Maga flowers, the national flower of his country. An exclusive design from the Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection by the designer John Galliano.
Rosalía was undoubtedly one of the protagonists of the 2024 Met Gala. Her charisma and style always steal the show, one way or another. And although her striking Dior two-piece in black topped with a net in the pure black widow style didn’t exactly align with Wintour’s required theme, the truth is that it hasn’t left anyone indifferent. In fact, some media have speculated that it could either be a message to her ex-fiancé, the singer Rauw Alejandro, who was also present there, or a nod to her new creative era, which seems to be full of black and white.
Rauw Alejandro has even made his debut this year at the Met Gala, announcing his attendance hours before through social media. The singer of «Diluvio» raised expectations among his fans by confirming that he would be just a few meters away from his ex-partner, Rosalía, although they didn’t seem to coincide closely, as we can see from the event’s images.
The singer also wanted to honor Puerto Rico by wearing a customized outfit from Ludovic de Saint Sernin that also sported a silver-framed Maga Flower on the chest, leaving his tattooed arms exposed. A rather simple combination, but one that somehow maintains his style and reminds us a bit of the BOSS outfit that Maluma wore at the 2023 Met Gala.
Obviously, Jennifer Lopez wore one of the most talked-about looks at the Met Gala. A lover of crystallized looks, transparencies, and impossible patterns, JLo confidently wore a sculptural Schiaparelli dress. An exclusive design embroidered with over two million silver beads and crowned with an impressive diamond necklace.
Like the reggaeton artist Rauw Alejandro, Camila Cabello relied on the Belgian fashion designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin full of precious crystals, with a stunning V-neckline that also rose up the leg. What also caught attention was her main accessory: a block of ice holding a rose and leaving the «Havana» singer without the sense of touch in her right hand.
Cardi B never disappoints and her looks always end up appearing on best-dressed lists in all magazines. So this time, the artist of Dominican descent arrived at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art accompanied by an army of assistants helping her move with her imposing black dress with several meters of extension, the work of the Chinese designer Windowsen. A shade that was also shared by other divas like Rosalía and Dua Lipa, but seems to stray from the floral motifs that seemed to dominate the evening.
