Coachella 2024 has undoubtedly been one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, as it couldn’t be otherwise. More than a hundred artists from different musical genres gathered at the legendary Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA, surrounded by celebrities with incredible outfits, as is tradition in the event.
The lineup of this edition of Coachella already evidenced the growing success of Latin music within and outside the United States, where in 2023 it already grew by over 93 billion streams and hundreds of millions in profits.
Key names were presented such as the king of «corridos tumbados» who has taken Mexican music to another level, Peso Pluma; in the same line, the regional Mexican singer Carín León, and other references of the new generations, such as the female revolution of reggaeton, Young Miko, or the incredible talent of the Argentine producer, Bizarrap, whose performance feature the speacial appearance of Shakira.
Let’s review in images the Latin performers’ acts from Coachella 2024 weekend 1:
Peso Pluma returned to this edition of Coachella 2024 after his appearance last year as a guest artist in Becky G’s set. And in his highly anticipated performance as one of the biggest artists in the industry right now, the Mexican artist had his entire live band and didn’t hesitate to invite various artists with whom he maintains successful collaborations that have led him to the top.
The artist of «LADY GAGA» starred in a beautiful moment alongside the Latin diva Becky G, acknowledging the help she had given him before becoming the icon he is today. «She was the first woman to lend me a hand in this industry, and today she is here with me,» he said in the middle of his set.
Then the Jalisco native called his usual collaborator, Junior H, another star of «corridos tumbados» with whom he sang «El Azul.» Neither did the presence of Ryan Castro to sing his hit «QUEMA» nor that of Santa Fe Klan to perform «No Son KLLE» miss out. He also invited the Puerto Rican Arcángel to sing their collaboration «Peso Completo» for the first time (a performance that unleashed laughter from Anuel AA, who was at odds with the veteran Puerto Rican).
Young Miko came ready to revolutionize the Coachella main stage opening with her viral hit «LISA.» In front of an excited audience, the author of «att.» performed various hits from her repertoire, from «Wiggy» and «curita» to «FINA,» her collaboration with Bad Bunny, or her BZRP Music Session Vol. 58 with Bizarrap.
«Coachella, I can’t thank you enough for having me here. What a beautiful vibe under the sun with all of you. We’re having a great time. This is good heat. From PR to the world, I’m Young Miko,» the artist announced.
Argentine producer Bizarrap undoubtedly stole the show as one of the most viral performances of all Coachella for the stellar appearance of the Latin diva among divas, the one and only Shakira.
The Colombian, who released her latest album, «Women No Longer Cry,» a month ago, rose on a platform behind the Argentine’s mixing table to sing «La Fuerte» and his hit «BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53.» An iconic moment that Shakira took advantage of to announce her highly anticipated world tour.
Santa Fe Klan, a Mexican rapper who is making Mexican hip-hop transcend, arrived to light up the stage at the festival. Accompanied by an army of dancers dressed in bulletproof vests and bandanas, the scenic presence of the show was one of the most notable. Holding onto his accordion, Santa Fe Klan made the audience vibrate to the rhythm of rap and cumbia, with songs like «Cuidando El Territorio,» «Mi Vicio,» or «Cypher.»
The artist of Dominican descent caused a sensation at the Sahara stage bringing to the festival some of her hits with which she has established herself as one of the most influential female rappers. Ice Spice sang in front of an excited audience hits like «Boy’s a liar Pt.2», «Gangsta Boo», «Barbie World,» and «Deli». Additionally, her set featured the presence of her friend Taylor Swift alongside her partner Travis Kelce, so Spice didn’t miss the chance to greet her, «Taylor motherf—ing Swift!», before singing their collaboration, «Karma.»
This is not the first time J Balvin lights up the Coachella stage; he did it back in 2022 and previously in 2018 to accompany Beyoncé singing «Mi Gente.» However, some time has passed and an important pause in music that has allowed the artist to return with a different focus and paradigm that has managed to surprise his audience equally.
And when Bad Bunny said that J Balvin was a friend to everyone, he meant something, because the Colombian took advantage of his set to bring out actor Will Smith last Sunday, April 14, to perform his 1997 hit, «Men In Black,» in honor of the famous movie. All this on a stage set with alien aesthetics and UFOs.
Carín León, one of the most important figures in the global expansion of Mexican music, and once again demonstrated this in his debut at Coachella. As he began his performance in the desert amid shouts of admiration from his audience, the sunset set an ideal mood to listen to his exciting songs accompanied by a band of over 20 musicians. León ignited the hearts of the audience with songs like «Te Lo Agradezco,» «Corazón de Oro,» «Que Vuelvas,» and his homage to Selena Quintanilla, «Si Una Vez.»
The festival audience was incredibly amazed to hear Beyoncé’s voice through the Coachella stage speakers to introduce Ludmilla, one of the great sensations of Brazilian music. At the beginning of the set, powerful red visuals with an inclusive message calling for freedom and condemnation of all types of discrimination were illuminated. Among the hits that the Brazilian diva sang was her hit «No_Se_Ve.mp3,» her collaboration with Argentine artist Emilia Mernes.

The Colombian star, who is currently one of the most listened-to Latin artists worldwide, was not in the festival lineup, but he did appear as a guest artist of rapper Blxst. Both have collaborated on the song «Rewind,» and Feid took the opportunity to pay tribute to his partner, the Colombian artist and superstar Karol G, wearing the newly released FC Barcelona soccer jersey with her name on it.
