Disney is keeping up with its trend of live-action remakes, turning its animated classics into movies with real actors. Following hits like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Mulan, it seems that Tangled—the fan-favorite story inspired by Rapunzel—is next in line. Rapunzel has become one of Disney’s most loved princesses, known for her iconic long hair, bold personality, and fearless attitude.

It’s no surprise that Disney is thinking about bringing the 2010 animated classic to life. However, the challenge is no small one: finding the perfect cast. Bringing these characters to the screen in a way that meets fan expectations is always tricky.

Mandy Moore Suggests Sabrina Carpenter for the Role

If anyone knows who should play Rapunzel, it’s Mandy Moore, who voiced the character in the 2010 film. Known for her role in A Walk To Remember, Mandy also sang the movie’s iconic songs in the English version. Now, 14 years later, she has a clear pick for the live-action role: Sabrina Carpenter. The singer, famous for hits like ‘Espresso’ and ‘Taste,’ has become one of today’s most popular artists. Mandy’s choice adds even more excitement to the buzz around this potential remake.

“I could see her with 50 feet of hair or something. She looks like a Disney princess in real life,” Mandy Moore said in an interview with Bustle.

Mandy also sees herself being part of the live-action film—but this time as Mother Gothel, the villain. She even suggested the idea of a unique duet: “Maybe I could be Rapunzel’s mom. Let’s have a real mother-daughter duet and have someone write an original song so we can talk about our differences and how hard it is to be a young person in this world.”

It seems Sabrina Carpenter might also be interested in the role. During Halloween 2023, she dressed up as Disney’s version of Rapunzel, sparking even more speculation.

Actor Taylor Zakhar Perez, known for his role in Red, White & Royal Blue, added to the buzz when he shared that Sabrina called him after seeing memes of the two as Rapunzel and Flynn. Taylor has also expressed interest in joining the cast of a live-action Tangled.

For now, we’ll have to wait to see if Disney decides to cast Sabrina in the role—and, just as importantly, whether she’s willing to pause her music career to focus on filming.
