5 Series With Latin Artists You Need to Watch

Sofía Vergara, Pedro Pascal, Karol G, and Jenna Ortega are some of the prominent acting figures

Griselda, the series that Sofía Vergara has already made viral even before its release —let’s remember her heated confrontation with a Spanish TV host— premiered on Netflix this 2024. In the series, which is about the famous «Cocaine Godmother,» mentor to Pablo Escobar, you can also see the — albeit brief but intense — acting debut of our Karol G as Carla, one of the prostitutes who transport cocaine from Colombia.

The truth is that there are not many productions that feature Latinx actors and actresses as main characters (or speaking characters in general). In fact, studies certify that they make up only 12.8% in the top 100 grossing films in the USA from 2002 to 2022, according to a report from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film (University of San Diego, California).

That’s why we’re here to recommend 5 series that you can’t miss and that are led by Latinx artists, actresses, and actors.

The cast includes co-protagonists and actresses of Latinx descent Alexa Demie (Maddy Pérez) and Barbie Ferrera (Kat Hernández).

Another worldwide phenomenon series is this production that takes place in an «elite» school, «Las Encinas.» Élite, a story set in Madrid, Spain, begins with the mysterious murder of one of its students, Marina Nunier (played by actress María Pedraza), and unfolds chronologically to explain how the events happen and who is responsible. The series has up to 7 seasons, and in its early episodes, you can see one of our Latin divas, Danna Paola, in the role of the twisted Lucrecia Montesinos.
