It’s not something you see every day, but sometimes artists decide to switch up their stage names, especially early in their careers. For instance, after releasing her second album, Christina Aguilera decided to slightly modify the spelling of her name to sign her works as Xtina. Similarly, Snoop Doggy Dog began his musical journey with a name resembling the one he’s now known by Snoop Dogg. Lana Del Rey initially released her first demos under the pseudonym May Jailer, and even Bob Dylan himself changed his alias, starting out as Robert Allyn.

Usually, these name changes happen when an artist is just starting their journey and hasn’t gained much recognition yet. However, Danna Paola has decided to make a significant change to her name, almost a 180-degree turn, and she’s asking for help from her fans in this decision.

The Mexican singer and actress, widely known worldwide, is about to release her fourth album, Childstar, which is set to be released on April 11th. It’s already up for pre-saving on digital platforms. Before the album’s launch, the artist has decided to drop her compound name and will now be known simply as Danna.

The actress who plays Lucrecia in «Élite» has reached out to her fans via her WhatsApp broadcast channel, seeking their help in changing her name on social media. She encountered an unexpected obstacle in the process.

If you check her Instagram profile, you’ll notice that Danna Paola has now become just ‘Danna.’ She’s also updated her website to reflect this change, now called dannadanna.com, without any mention of ‘Paola.’ However, she faced some issues when trying to switch her name on Twitter, as there was already another user with the same name. 

Through her WhatsApp broadcast channel, Danna Paola reached out to her fans with a series of voice messages, seeking their assistance in achieving her desired name change. “I’ll share something interesting that’s been happening lately. It’s been a bit of a challenge to secure my name on Twitter. You see, there’s this lady who owns the Twitter handle @danna, and I haven’t been able to negotiate with her. She noticed that my name is Danna and that my username is Danna everywhere, so now she’s asking for $400,000. ” 

“So, we need to come up with a plan. We have to make something happen, and I need your help because I’m not going to pay $400,000. Perhaps we can come up with a strategy, or maybe she’ll just give it to us. After all, it’s my name. We have to approach her kindly. How should we do this? I need us to brainstorm a plan because we’re not making any progress,” Danna Paola shared with laughter to her followers.

Following Danna Paola’s Request…

Her fans took action to help her change her name on Twitter. However, some of them got carried away, resorting to insults towards the woman who owned the @danna handle on the platform. Danna Paola had to step in and urge for restraint, emphasizing the need to avoid causing any legal issues. She reminded her fans to be cautious and considerate in their actions.

Despite their efforts, it seems the woman didn’t agree to hand over the username. Consequently, Danna had to settle for a new username, @dannajustdanna, on Twitter. She announced her new handle on the platform, asserting her presence and determination to stay connected with her fans. 

Even after Danna Paola’s message and the username change, it’s clear that the singer’s most devoted fans haven’t given up and continue to push for the name. Consequently, the artist felt compelled to send another message through her WhatsApp broadcast channel, once again urging for calm and respect. 

“Please, let’s stop this. I shared this story with you as something funny that happened to me, and I never intended for anyone to be harassed. Let’s aim for peace and avoid further conflicts with other people or fan groups. I truly appreciate your support,” wrote the artist. Additionally, Danna Paola disclosed that the name change carries ‘a deeply personal significance for me,’ stressing that “it’s not just a whim.”
