Videos and images have started circulating from one of the world’s biggest music festivals: Tomorrowland. The event was scheduled to kick off just two days later, on July 18, in the Belgian town of Boom. But the buzz turned unexpectedly serious after a fire broke out on the festival’s main stage on July 16, grabbing attention for all the wrong reasons.

The flames triggered a rapid response from multiple firefighting teams who rushed to the scene to control the situation. Early footage shows fireworks going off through thick clouds of smoke, raising questions about whether pyrotechnics were being tested ahead of time. Festival organizers told local media their top priority right now is ‘the safety of everyone at the site and nearby.’

This year’s stage design featured a wintery, fantasy-like theme—with snowy mountains, an ice-covered castle, and a massive lion sculpture as the centerpiece. As usual, the main stage is one of Tomorrowland’s biggest highlights thanks to its epic scale and elaborate visuals. The exact cause of the fire hasn’t been confirmed.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and emergency teams were able to reach the site quickly. According to the Belgian newspaper De Standaard, local residents heard several explosions, and around three-quarters of the main stage is believed to have been damaged by the fire.
