Fifteen years ago, on December 21, 2008, RBD bid farewell as a band at the iconic Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid, Spain, in front of 15,000 spectators, bringing an end to a tour that marked their goodbye after more than four years as a group. Anahí, Maite Perroni, Dulce María, Alfonso Herrera, Christian Chávez, and Alfonso Herrera would never step onto the same stage together again.
However, over the years, we have witnessed reunions of the band, social media posts, a virtual concert in 2020 in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and an announcement earlier this year that left us all amazed: RBD was back, more alive than ever, and would kick off this year with a tour across various stadiums and arenas in the United States and Latin America.
This weekend, on August 25, over 50,000 fans saw their dream come true as they watched the band once again take the stage at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.
Two days later, they once again hung the ‘sold out’ sign at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, welcoming the Soy Rebelde Tour. The day to once again feel the warmth of their audience had finally arrived.
So, what has been the result? Over two hours of concert time and around thirty songs (including medleys) in which (through social media) we have witnessed a revisiting of their great discography classics –songs like «Nuestro amor,» «Ser o parecer,» or «Este corazón» were not absent–, but also the new songs that they have been gifting us in these recent years and months, such as «Cerquita De Ti» or «Siempre He Estado Aquí».
‘Thank you for not forgetting us’ were some of the words that could be heard after the first song, igniting cheers from the audience. All the group members also took advantage of the days leading up to and following this initial performance in El Paso to express their gratitude to their fans for all the emotions they were reliving after being away from the stage for over a decade.
On his part, Alfonso Herrera (the notably absent and announced member in this band’s resurgence) didn’t hesitate to send a message of support and affection to all his fellow members on the eve of the show: ‘Success on the tour, big hug, and all the best always!’ He wrote alongside their names through his Twitter account.
Indeed, RBD has proven to be more alive than ever. The emotions, without a doubt, are still very much alive, and their songs are forever imprinted in our memories. Congratulations!
