2023: An Outstanding Year for Latin Music

We’re not just talking about the surge in popularity of ‘corridos tumbados‘ and Mexican music, which made a big splash this year. We talk about Latin music as a whole, covering artists and styles from various countries. Its impact has been so significant that, as of now, 2023 it’s the most significant year for Latin hits (Spotify). 

According to Rolling Stone, eight songs managed to claim the number one spot on Spotify’s global charts, which is a record-breaking feat. Among the top 10 most-streamed artists globally, four were of Latin origin. Bad Bunny secured the second spot, trailing just behind Taylor Swift, who had held the title of the most-streamed artist for three consecutive years. Nevertheless, the Puerto Rican continued to shine on the platform with Un Verano Sin Ti, even though it was released back in 2022, making it the top album of 2023. 

As if that’s not enough, nearly half of the top 10 artists have been Latin. Leading the list is the Mexican artist Peso Pluma, who’s had a remarkably good year, holding the 5th spot. Colombian singer Feid closely follows at number 6, and Karol G has secured the 9th position, even surpassing Lana Del Rey, who landed at number 10 on the list.
