Carín León Leads Lista LOS40 USA with «Primera Cita»

December has finally arrived at LOS40 USA! That means Christmas, parties, eating a lot, and happiness. And of course, dancing and singing along to our best hits! This week, at #1 on our Lista LOS40 USA, we are pleased to announce the positioning of one of the key figures in the explosion of Mexican music worldwide (not just Regional Mexican, a label that has struggled to discard), Carín León!

The Sonora singer has reached the top with one of his recent releases, «Primera Cita,» a song that revisits a story of love, heartbreak, and freedom, blending Mexican sounds with soul. A single that is part of his acclaimed latest album, «Colmillo de Leche,» (which won the Latin Grammy for Best Norteño Album), as he previewed in an interview with LOS40 USA.

«Primera Cita» continues the effort to move away from traditional rhythms; it is «music made with the heart.»

«I started to form an idea around the song because it talks a lot about freedom and moments that are immeasurable. It recalls his first date and has a completely free approach, whether it’s sexual, romantic, or emotional; all set in Tijuana, one of the freest cities in Mexico. The story speaks about an internal claim to deprive oneself of freedom,» León revealed to Rolling Stone.

Mexican Music Dominates LOS40 USA Podium

Carín León’s hit is not the only one in this style rocking our Lista LOS40 USA, as in the second position, we also find «Según Quién,» his explosive song with Maluma, which has become viral on social media in recent weeks. Another collaboration with Mexican artists that shows how the rhythms of the land of the sun have spread globally, exploding the music charts.

«Según Quién» tells the first-person story of a breakup that doesn’t end in the best possible way, narrated from resentment and the desire not to return. This hit is part of Maluma’s latest studio album, «Don Juan,» in which the Colombian explored various styles, including salsa in «La Fórmula» with Marc Anthony, afrobeats in «Coco Loco,» and reggaeton in «Diablo» with Anuel AA.

The third position on our chart goes to one of the most listened-to artists in 2023, none other than Feid. And with a song that is also part of one of the genres that has grown the most in the last two years, afrobeats, alongside Nigerian rapper Rema. «Bubalú» is a catchy explosion of flow and good vibes that make us long for summer in the middle of winter.
