Britney Spears‘ newly released autobiography, ‘The Woman In Me,’ is grabbing headlines everywhere. Just last week, she revealed some shocking details about her past relationship with her ex-boyfriend and former colleague, Justin Timberlake. However, the pop sensation, renowned for her musical accomplishments, also ventured into acting. Back in 2001, she took on a role in the movie Crossroads: Until the End, all while working on her Britney album.

Following the release of her autobiography, which is already available in the United States, The Daily Mail decided to share the video of Britney’s audition for the part of Allie Hamilton in the famous film The Notebook. In the video, a visibly emotional Britney is seen, on the brink of tears, performing the scene where Allie tells Noah that she’s going to marry someone else. Even Ryan Gosling’s voice is heard, who plays Noah, off-camera.

While Rachel McAdams ultimately got the role, it would have been a chance for Britney to work with another former colleague from The Mickey Mouse Club. “The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on The Mickey Mouse Club, I’m glad I didn’t do it. If I had, instead of working on my album In the Zone, I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night,” Britney commented on the possibility of working with the Canadian actor again.

“I hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up. After a while you don’t know what’s real anymore,” the «Toxic» singer elaborated, offering insights into why the movie casting directors might not have chosen her.

The Casting Director’s Perspective

Matthew Barry, the casting director for ‘The Notebook,’ is the one who decided to share Britney’s audition video with the world. In his comments, Barry stated that Britney gave an incredible audition and was one of the top contenders for the role of Allie Hamilton. “Britney beat out several of the top female actresses at the time. Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, Kate Bosworth, Amy Adams, Jamie King and Mandy Moore auditioned for this role. Britney beat out all of them. Everybody who was anybody that year wanted this part,” Matthew Barry revealed.
