There’s no doubt that YHLQMDLG (“Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana,” translated as “I Do Whatever I Want”) marked a turning point in Bad Bunny's career. Before launching the Debí Tirar Más Fotos era and becoming one of the most-streamed artists in the world — ahead of stars like Taylor Swift and The Weeknd — Bad Bunny had already crowned himself as the king of the Spanish-speaking urban genre: the king of reggaetón’s new era.

Benito released his history-making album YHLQMDLG on February 29, 2020 — yes, on Leap Day! — just before the COVID-19 lockdown. The album quickly became a cultural phenomenon, as the project pays tribute to old-school reggaetón during a time when nobody could go to clubs or parties for obvious reasons.

Some people may have thought the album wouldn’t get off the ground since nobody could party. However, that’s when Bad Bunny took advantage of the situation and encouraged fans to party at home to escape the monotony of the COVID-19 lockdown. Everybody remembers how Benito frequently went live on Instagram during those difficult times and made people feel more connected and entertained.

In fact, he also released a side project titled Las Que No Iban a Salir, which includes a collaboration with his then-partner Gabriela Berlingeri called “En Casita” (“At Home”).

YHLQMDLG includes several iconic hits and earned Benito his first Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop or Urban Album in 2021. The album features major songs such as “Yo Perreo Sola,” “Si Veo a Tu Mamá,” “La Santa” featuring Daddy Yankee, and “Vete,” among others.

One of the album’s most celebrated tracks is “Soliá,” which is currently one of Bad Bunny’s most searched songs in the United States.

What Does Soliá Mean in Bad Bunny’s Song?

Most English-speaking Bad Bunny fans may not know what “Soliá” really means. In fact, even many Spanish-speaking listeners may not fully understand the expression either.

Soliá is a term from Puerto Rican slang derived from the word solita, meaning “alone” or “by herself.” That is why Benito’s song is directed toward a woman who appears to be in an unhealthy relationship in which her boyfriend constantly leaves her alone.

That’s why Bad Bunny tells her that her partner should not keep leaving her by herself — because eventually, he could lose her.

Who Is Soliá About?

Many Bad Bunny songs have been linked by fans to specific people, such as “Yonaguni” and Rosalía or “Adivino” and Kendall Jenner. However, “Soliá” does not appear to have a confirmed real-life inspiration or specific recipient.

Bad Bunny’s Soliá Lyrics in English

She came alone, left without her friends

Seeking solace in alcohol, looking for a way out

Of that fake relationship

Mami, I saw how you look at me

I'll say it again in case you forget

Send him a message that says

Don't leave her alone

Because he might lose her

If he ever sees her again

Tell him from me not to leave her alone

Because he might lose her

If he ever sees her again

Eh, eh, eh, eh

Hey, oh, hey

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Hey, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Hey, oh, hey

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Hey, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Tonight she wants to dance all night long, hey

She’s almost single

She doesn’t introduce him to anyone—she’s too lazy for that

Anyway, by the end of the night, she’ll have whatever she wants

The moon already gave her a sign

She posted something on her story, someone got jealous

Her song played, and he dedicated it to her

She says she wants to do it with me, baby, hey

Let the windows fog up

The girl’s all grown up

Like she’s too old for anyone to scold her

May the night not hurt her, eh

The Kardashian’s not into Kanye anymore

There have been so many disappointments, eh

Lies from all these jerks, eh

They let her down once again

She’d give it another shot, but she’s run out of chances

She came alone, left without her friends

Drowning in alcohol, looking for a way out

Of that fake relationship

Baby, I saw how you look at me

I’ll say it again in case you forget

Send him a message that says

Don’t leave you alone

Because he might lose you

If he ever sees you again

Tell him from me not to leave you alone

Because he might lose you

If he ever sees you again
