Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Lead Attorney Quits Just Weeks Before Trial

Anthony Ricco made it clear that he could 'under no circumstances' continue representing the rapper

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ legal troubles just got even more complicated. With only weeks to go before his sex trafficking trial, his lead attorney, Anthony Ricco, has unexpectedly withdrawn from the case.

The news broke on February 20, 2025, when Ricco filed a motion to step down. In his statement, he made it clear that ‘under no circumstances’ could he continue representing Combs. While he didn’t provide details—citing attorney-client privilege—he assured that his departure won’t delay the trial, which is still set for May 5, 2025.

His Legal Team Is Smaller but Still Fighting

Even with Ricco out, Combs still has a defense team of five attorneys, including Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, who are pushing back against the charges. Recently, his lawyers filed a motion to dismiss one of the charges, arguing that the Mann Act, a key part of the case, is being used in a discriminatory and racially biased way.

With his lead attorney stepping away and the trial just around the corner, Diddy’s future is more uncertain than ever. While his legal team is trying to get some charges dropped, the accusations against him keep piling up.

What Is Diddy Accused Of?

Diddy’s legal troubles started making headlines in November 2023, when his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, accused him of physical and sexual abuse. Although they settled the case out of court, it opened the floodgates for more accusations. So far, over 30 people have filed civil lawsuits against him, alleging rape and production of non-consensual sexual material.

The 55-year-old rapper has denied all claims, but things got worse when he was arrested in September 2024 and taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Since then, he has been denied bail, as authorities worry he might try to influence key witnesses.

Among the many accusations against him, one lawsuit filed in December 2024 alleged that he drugged and rape a woman alongside Jay-Z when she was just 13 years old. While the lawsuit was withdrawn in February 2025, the list of allegations against him keeps growing.
