On Thursday, February 22, the 36th edition of Premio Lo Nuestro was held in Miami, one of the most important awards in the United States that recognizes the best in Latin, urban, and tropical music.
Maluma and Peso Pluma were the favorites with 14 and 13 nominations, respectively, out of the 38 categories of these awards. In the end, both artists took home 4 awards each, the same number as Shakira and Carin León.
Although the big winner, undoubtedly, was Karol G who received a total of 9 awards, including best artist of the year, best album, best tour, and best female urban artist. Unfortunately, she wasn’t present to accept any of them, just like Peso Pluma, another notable absentee, along with her now ex-partner Nicki Nicole.
There was also Spanish representation. Rosalía had 6 nominations; Quevedo and Saiko had two each, and Rels B and Aitana had one each. In the end, only Rosalía won an award, sharing it with Romeo Santos for the Best Tropical Collaboration of the year for «El Pañuelo.»
As for performances, Bad Gyal presented «La Joia» live at the Kaseya Center in the city, bringing energy to the stage with Anitta. Additionally, Camilo and Evaluna showcased love on stage by presenting two of their new songs, «PLIS» and «Gordo.» Gloria Trevi, who will remix the chosen song for Spain in Eurovision 2024, «Zorra,» also presented a new track.
Special awards included the Lifetime Achievement Award for Mexican singer-songwriter Ana Bárbara, the Global Icon Award for Don Omar, and the Excellence Award for Olga Tañón. Here is the list of the rest of the winners.
