Eurovision Nebulossa’s ‘Zorra’ Translation: Meaning & Lyrics in English

We are getting closer to the final of the European Song Contest, Eurovision! And even though Swedish artist Loreen won last year with «Tattoo,» this year looks quite different.

It turns out that «Zorra» (Vixen) has become the word of the moment in Europe. And it’s all thanks to the Spanish candidate, Nebulossa. After the song was chosen in the final of Benidorm Fest 2024 to represent Spain in Eurovision, everyone is expressing their opinions about the lyrics. Is it empowering or misogynistic? Is it a hit or a mess? The curious thing is that many of those criticizing the verses haven’t realized that the artist is flipping the term that has been used to insult women for centuries, appropriating it to reinvent its meaning.

But now comes the task of explaining the song’s concept to all of Europe and the rest of the world. The empowering message has to reach every language. The Spanish public channel RTVE wants to seize the moment and has hurriedly translated the song into English. After all, the song is currently the third most viral song in the world!

RTVE shared the music video of «Zorra» with English subtitles. And what word did they use? Not «foxy,» not «bitch.» The word they ultimately chose was «Vixen.» And we have to admit that it makes perfect sense.

The Meaning of ‘Zorra’

They couldn’t have picked a better word to translate. «Vixen,» like «zorra,» has various meanings. And they align with the Spanish ones. The first one means the female fox. Literally. The second means «harpy,» a malicious woman. In other words, a meaning that also coincides with the Spanish one.

So now we know the word Nebulossa has used to translate this song. And we think it will be perfectly understood.

‘Zorra’ Translated Into More Languages

But English is just the first language in which the song will be translated. RTVE has confirmed that, to ensure that all viewers following Eurovision on May 11th understand the meaning, they will translate the song into French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Swedish. Watch out, Malmö, the song is going to be shouted from the rooftops!
