Last year, Nicky Jam announced he was stepping back from the stage, but with this new collaboration with Trueno, one of the main trap artists in Argentina, it’s clear he’s not done with music yet. Their latest track, «Cangrinaje,» demonstrates the Puerto Rican knack for innovation, exploring new sounds and talents while staying true to his roots.  

The Puerto Rican and the Argentine have come together on a song that pays homage to old-school reggaeton. Its sound is raw and invites intense dancing, reminiscent of Nicky’s early days in the industry. Trueno’s fresh verses add a modern touch, creating a connection between the old and new generations of fans.  

What Does ‘Cangrinaje’ Mean?

It’s a valid question because, as we know, reggaeton has a lot of slang from each country, so this word may be unfamiliar to us. ‘Cangrinaje’ comes from ‘cangri’ and refers to someone important, fluent, and influential. Therefore, the title of the song alludes to the idea of becoming an important and influential figure. It’s worth noting that this word has been used quite a bit by Daddy Yankee, as seen in his song ‘El Cangri’. 

However, this isn’t the only word we might not know in the song. We can hear the artists repeatedly saying ‘mi yal eres tú’, but what does that mean? According to Univisión, ‘Yal’ is a typical Puerto Rican woman who has some traits that set her apart from the rest of the population. Here are some of the words we hear in the song:

• Turro: This is a colloquial term in Argentina used to describe someone as foolish or silly. It can also refer to a person who is shameless, malicious, or despicable.
• Sobeteo: This term could be synonymous with ‘manosear’ or ‘toquetear’, which means to touch or handle someone or something inappropriately.
• ‘Métele’: It can be translated as ‘go for it’ or ‘give it’. It’s also used as an expression to mean ‘hurry up’.
• Bellakear: comes from ‘Bellaco’ (male) or ‘Bellaca’ (female). In its strict definition, the word refers to someone bad, mischievous, or rascal; however, in some countries like Puerto Rico, it has a more s*xual connotation. It’s also used to describe someone who is sexually aroused.
