Nicki Nicole Reveals Breakup Song ‘Ojos Verdes’ Meaning to LOS40

There are many life reasons that lead an artist to turn their feelings into true hits. But it’s something we especially find in sadness, and more specifically, in heartbreak. This has been the driving force behind many of the 2023 hits like ‘TQG’ or Shakira’s ‘BZRP Music Session Vol.53.’ These breakup anthems have resonated with millions of people, especially women, due to the perspective they represent.

Now it’s urban star Nicki Nicole who has wanted to bring this kiss-off style back to her Argentine roots to present ‘OJOS VERDES,’ a song that stems from detaching oneself from the person once loved after disappointment, making it clear that they will never find someone like them again. This is the first single release since Nicole’s breakup with corridos tumbados star Peso Pluma.

Now, two months later, Nicki has thrilled her fans by releasing a beautiful cumbia with very revealing verses that seem to point to a recent romantic relationship. «Ojos Verdes,» besides being the hue of our protagonist, is also the title of another popular Regional Mexican song by Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda.

«But I brought out the best in you / And you realized the day I left / Who are you going to deceive? Who are you going to lie to saying you don’t miss me?» states the chorus of «Ojos Verdes,» whose harshness of its lyrics contrasts with a danceable and catchy melody.

Taking advantage of this release, we spoke with Nicki Nicole at LOS40 USA, who has given us more clues about the meaning of the song. «‘Ojos Verdes’ is a very personal song, where I was able to channel a not-so-positive situation I experienced through music. I always try to express my emotions in songs regardless of my state. In this particular song like ‘Ojos Verdes,’ I went for the joyful and fun side as it is a cumbia to express something I lived that wasn’t so positive and joyful and for people to dance to and enjoy,» revealed the author of ALMA (2023).

After a year of success and the release of her first conceptual album ALMA nominated for the Latin Grammy, Nicki has decided to bring her tour to the United States on a seven-concert tour between September and October, which will go from New York to Los Angeles.
