Three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic death of One Direction star Liam Payne, according to an announcement from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, Nov. 7. The suspects, who remain unnamed, face charges of abandonment of a person leading to death. As well as the supply and facilitation of narcotics.

Payne died after a fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel on Costa Rica Street in Buenos Aires on Oct. 16. Authorities report that Payne appeared to be in a compromised state of consciousness at the time of the fall. In their investigation, prosecutors discovered suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, which led to the arrest of three people believed to be involved.

Who Are the Suspects?

The individuals charged in the case include a person who had been accompanying Payne daily during his stay. As well as a hotel employee accused of supplying him with cocaine. The third suspect is an alleged drug supplier. The authorities have not released the names of those involved, but their roles have raised serious questions about the circumstances leading up to Payne’s tragic fall.

Prosecutors have been working to piece together the final days of Payne’s stay at the hotel, from Oct. 13 to the day of his death on Oct. 16. According to a recent report, traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant were found in Payne’s system, suggesting a combination of substances used in the 72 hours leading up to the incident. However, authorities ruled out any form of self-harm or direct physical intervention by others, focusing instead on the potential neglect or misconduct of those charged.

An Ongoing Investigation

As part of their investigation, Argentine authorities conducted nine raids this week, collecting evidence to clarify the events that transpired during Payne’s time in Buenos Aires. Officials hope that this evidence, along with witness testimonies, will provide a clearer picture of the role each suspect played in the days and hours leading up to the artist’s death.

The charges suggest that Payne’s death may have been preventable, given that those now in custody allegedly neglected their responsibility to ensure his safety. Authorities continue to investigate Payne’s activities and interactions during his stay to determine whether further charges may be necessary.

As this case unfolds, fans around the world are mourning the loss of Payne, whose life was cut short under such tragic circumstances. The findings so far underscore the complexities of his final days and the questions surrounding his untimely death.
