Karol G was the big winner at the 31st edition of the Billboard Latin Music Awards, held on October 20, 2024 in Miami, Florida, USA. Despite not attending the award ceremony, the Colombian singer dominated the night, surpassing other major names in the industry, including her main competitors, Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma.
The event was broadcast live on Telemundo and Peacock. Hosted by renowned actors Carmen Villalobos and Danilo Carrera, the ceremony was a true celebration of Latin music, honoring the most popular artists and their contributions to the genre with several special recognitions, including one for Alejandro Sanz for his incredible career. It was a night filled with Latin music, excitement, and plenty of glamour, as seen on the blue carpet of the event.
As mentioned, Karol G was the main star of the night, leading with 17 nominations and taking home 8 awards, including 200 GlobalArtist of the Year and Latin Album of the Year for Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season). However, she couldn’t claim the Artist of the Year title, which went to another major winner of the night: Bad Bunny.
Bad Bunny entered the night with 15 nominations (the same as Peso Pluma) and won 6 awards, including Artist of the Year and Latin Song of the Year for Monaco. Mexican singer Peso Pluma (known as «La doble P») also took home 6 awards, including Songwriter of the Year.
The night was packed with electrifying performances. Yandel, Prince Royce with Gabito Ballesteros, and Gloria Trevi with María Becerra were among the artists who took the stage, delivering breath-taking performances. Perhaps the most spectacular was J Balvin’s, set in an incredible nature-inspired backdrop.
The New Artist of the Year award went to Xavi, who also performed ‘La Diabla’ on stage. Other emerging artists like Gabito Ballesteros and Young Miko were recognized, showcasing the diversity and emerging talent in Latin music. Shakira, Maná, Camilo, Fuerza Régida, ATL Jacob, and others rounded out a star-studded list of winners.
Three icons of Latin music were honored with special awards. Alejandro Sanz received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring contribution to Latin music. J Balvin was awarded the Spirit of Hope Award for his philanthropic work (in addition to performing ‘Cosa de Locos’), and Pepe Aguilar was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Awards Hall of Fame.
