Once again, the prestigious Billboard magazine has presented its awards for Latin music, turning the night of October 5th in Miami into the great celebration of our sounds, our language, and our musical passion. The 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards have their winners in a very equitable distribution, honoring big names like Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Peso Pluma.

The Watsco Center in Miami, Florida, USA, hosted the 30th edition of this grand celebration, which began in the early afternoon with a massive blue carpet graced by the big names of the genre, including the highly acclaimed RBD.

Many artists from the Spanish-speaking world traveled to the east coast of the United States to attend this special event. The three previously mentioned artists were the favorites and delivered a great show throughout the night.

Bad Bunny opened and closed the score

Bad Bunny was the one who received the first award of the night. The massive sales of «Tití Me Preguntó» were to blame. It wouldn’t be the last, and his phrase «Thank you for supporting Latin music» was representative of the sector and the genre’s growth. The artist recalled his dream as a young person to see our music become number one in the world, something that we have all achieved and is evident.

The artist from Puerto Rico had planned a grand debut and lived up to his word with over 8 minutes of a show in which he revisited some of his greatest hits. Before that, he thanked for the second award of the night in a somewhat unexpected way: while changing clothes…

The Artist of the Year award closed a gala in which he walked away with 7 awards (Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist, Song of the Year – Sales, Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Latin Rhythm Artist, and Latin Rhythm Song).

On the other hand, Peso Pluma started as the top nominee with over 20 nominations, ultimately winning 8 awards (Debut Artist of the Year, Hot Latin Song, Hot Latin Song Vocal Collaboration, Hot Latin Songs Male Artist, Song of the Year – Streaming, Regional Mexican Solo Artist, Regional Mexican Song, and Composer of the Year). The throne of sales, popularity, and awards was his from the moment he received the Hot Latin Song award for «Ella baila sola.» Well-deserved. The award for Best Debut Artist and the composer award were also well-deserved…

Colombian artist Karol G didn’t go home empty-handed either, as she was destined to be the queen of the night from the moment she stepped onto the blue carpet. With an impressive look that remind us of Selena Quintanilla’s style, and a great desire to have fun, she received the award for Best Latin Album of the Year. Very emotional, her gratitude is already one of the viral moments of the night.

Medellín’s own Karol G would step onto the stage for the second time with another award, this time for her more charitable side. Billboard magazine honored her with the Spirit of Hope Award. In total, she won 5 awards: Hot Latin Songs Female Artist of the Year, Top Latin Album of the Year, Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Latin Rhythm Album of the Year, and the Spirit of Hope Award.

Manuel Turizo appeared on the scene almost quietly to remind us that bachata also deserved its place in the spotlight. Three awards (Global 200 Latin Song of the Year, Latin Airplay Song of the Year, and Tropical Song of the Year) recognized one of the hit songs of 2023. The pop throne went to Shakira with two of the three awards distributed in the Latin pop category.

But beyond the individual names, the biggest winner of the night was Latin music itself. The music that brings together Myke Towers with Yandel, or Peso Pluma with Young Miko, and allows Jenni Rivera to receive the tribute she deserves for her role in the Spanish-language music industry during prime time in the USA.
