Taylor Swift seems to conquer everything in her path; the world is at her feet, and we’re all witnesses. Just a few days ago, she bid adieu to August with an exciting announcement: her film The Eras Tour is set to grace North American cinemas on October 13. This tour has been rewriting history across the United States and the globe, in collaboration with the AMC distribution company.

Just 24 hours later, the singer once again demonstrated her ability to rally her fans, setting a new record in the company’s history. The presale of tickets began immediately after the news was announced.

The result? The Eras Tour Concert Film outperformed Spider-Man: No Way Home as the movie with the highest first-day presale earnings, raking in an amazing $26 million. This triumph stands significantly ahead of the $16.9 million obtained by Spider-Man‘s latest adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The ‘Swift’ Effect

These unprecedented numbers not only secured another record in the artist’s extensive career musical and cinematic but also had far-reaching effects. In response, two movie releases that were planned for the same weekend decided to change their release dates to avoid competing with the 2 hours and 45 minutes concert.

Leading the pack was The Exorcist: Believer. Its producer, Jason Blum, took to Twitter mere hours after Taylor’s announcement, humorously stating, «Look what you made me do. ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ is now premiering on October 6, 2023. #TaylorWins.» Consequently, the horror movie abandoned its initial intention of debuting on Friday the 13 to increase its chances of a successful launch.

Similarly, Bleecker Street Films, the production company behind Meg Ryan’s forthcoming movie, made use of their social media platforms to communicate a slight delay in the release date: «So, we’re taking our time… Are you ready? Meg Ryan is ending her 14-year hiatus from romantic comedies, and the #Megaissance is commencing with ‘What Happens Later,’ now taking place… later. You can catch it in theaters on November 3!

Taylor Swift can now take a breath of relief: her film (much like her tour) is already a resounding success. Congratulations!
