With 10 albums in the market and over 200 songs in her catalog, it’s very difficult for a Taylor Swift song not to resonate with a specific moment of our existence: dates, birthdays, and life experiences among her lyrics are shared daily by her fans through social media, constantly demonstrating why she is one of the most important international artists of our century.

However, the arrival of August is always experienced as a special moment. Last year, ‘August,’ the eighth song from Folklore, became part of the most listened songs on streaming platforms on the eve of August 1st, maintaining over two million daily streams for the rest of the month.

Folklore

Folklore, Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album, took the world by surprise when it was released just 24 hours after the singer herself revealed its existence. It holds a special place in the hearts of Swifties because it was dropped during the pandemic, providing a comforting companion during the confinement of her fans and non-fans.

The album’s lead single, ‘Cardigan,’ was accompanied by a fairy-ish-nostalgic music video, introducing fans to the world of the entire album.

“August fever”

Millions of Swifties around the world take advantage of this day to reconnect with one of the most special songs in her discography, mainly because of the story it tells and how people can relate to the lyrics.

The song portrays a summer love where one party feels more deeply than the other, capturing a moment when a summer relationship is not clearly defined. The imagery of sea water, wrinkled bed sheets, and a half-empty bottle of wine becomes the protagonists of a bond destined to fail.

The latest update of Spotify’s Top 50 Global once again confirms the phenomenon: ‘August’ ranked 43rd on the list of the most listened songs on the entire platform on August 1st (including the streams from the eve), so it’s not exaggerated to expect even higher numbers tomorrow.

In the last 24 hours2, 158,000 million people listened to the song. All you need to do is check Instagram or Twitter to see how thousands of people are celebrating the arrival of August by sharing the song and its lyrics in their posts.

Taylor herself is well aware of her fans’ enthusiasm for the song, and for days, she had been building up anticipation for this moment. Coinciding with midnight in the United States, she took to her Twitter account to post: «get in the car it’s august.»

Taylor Nation, her official Twitter account, also tweeted on July 28th: «the air is getting pretty salty,» referring to the opening lyrics of the song that introduce this love story. The excitement and eagerness from both Taylor and her fans clearly show how special and cherished August is in her discography.

So, Taylor Swift and her fans have done it again. There is no holiday, date, or event that escapes their attention. August and the world belong to them, and we simply live in it, witnessing the passion and dedication they share for her music and art.

The strong connection between Taylor and her fanbase has created a unique and powerful community that continues to celebrate and cherish her work with enthusiasm and love.
