Relationships are not simple. This perspective isn’t born from pessimism but rather from the acknowledgement that any relationship demands a blend of effort, attention, affection, and time, along with other essential elements.

Usually, when we talk about relationships, it often gravitates towards romantic ones, but the most important will always be the closest: parent-child relationship.

Being a parent is assuming a complex responsibility that has never been and will never be easy. It’s a role with no instruction manuals, leaving room for inevitable missteps. Several psychologists assert that while harm might be unintentional, it’s an intrinsic part of parenting. Yet, distinctions lie in the realm of the harm inflicted.

In the past, emotions used to be suppressed, but gradually, this paradigm has begun to change. We’ve started to understand that vulnerability isn’t a negative aspect, but rather a catalyst for healing. Embracing our vulnerabilities can pave the way towards profound understanding and growth.

Parent-Child Relationships In Music

The parent-child relationship is one of the most intricate and significant connections in a person’s life. It lays the foundation for emotional development, self-esteem, and how we perceive the world around us. Unfortunately, like any relationship, conflicts and misunderstandings can arise, straining the bond between parents and their adult children.

Music is one of the best avenues for communication. Its unique power allows us to traverse a spectrum of emotions, ranging from the darkest depths to the most euphoric heights, and it’s commonly used to express feelings or words we are not able to communicate directly.

A long time ago, Lindsay Lohan dedicated a rather melancholic song to her father, expressing the void he left and how deeply his absence hurt her.

Miracles

Alejandra Guzmán, an icon of Spanish rock, particularly in Mexico, also dedicated an equally heartbreaking song («Milagros» (Miracles)) to her daughter, with whom she’s known to have had a complicated relationship.

In the song, she expresses how much her daughter has also hurt her, but also emphasizes the depth of her love as a mother. Furthermore, she conveys her enduring hope for a ‘miracle,’ a future in which her daughter returns.

Song Lyrics In English

I’ve lost count of the tears I’ve been dedicating to you
How many full moons I’ve counted to your absence, missing you

I pray for your light, sending you love and blessings while meditating
I’ve changed the furniture, but the feeling I can’t move

What a bitter silence
How much time and how much space
You’re the chapter in my life that hasn’t ended
I can’t go on living with demons from the past
I always think of you, I’m your mother, and that’s something no one can change
I don’t know how to give up yet; I still wait for you here
Because I believe
In miracles
In miracles

I still dream that you’ll come back and walk by my side
I collect wounds, and yours was deep; it hurts so much

What a bitter silence
How much time and how much space

You’re the chapter in my life that hasn’t ended
I can’t go on living with demons from the past
I always think of you; I’m your mother, and that’s something no one can change
I don’t know how to give up yet; I still wait for you here because I believe
In miracles
In miracles
In miracles
In miracles

I’ve lost count of the tears I’ve been dedicating

MORRITO

‘Morro’ means kid (boy)/young man in Mexican Slang. ‘Morrito’ is a diminutive of the word ‘morro’, so it would be kind of a even younger boy, or just another way to say it.

Vadhir Derbez is the son of the renowned Mexican actor, Eugenio Derbez, and the target of the song.

Both the lyrics and the video narrate the story of a child who views their father as a hero, a perspective often held by children about their parents. However, it also delves into the pain of his absence and how, as he grows, he realizes he becomes accustomed to that void. Eventually, he’s compelled to learn to live without it. In other words, he learns, in a painful manner, how to live with an absent father.

Song Lyrics In English

I’m going to tell you the story of a young boy
He wanted to be like his favorite hero
He would wait by the window for the door to knock
Another day went by, and dad didn’t come

He’s tired of waiting now
Little man, you shouldn’t cry
People will never change
Mom would always repeat

How easy it was to be hopeful
Crumbs to mend
So many years of solitude
Young boy, please don’t wait alone

One is born and one dies alone
And though it hurts, well, I’ll be here
Because in the end, life puts everything in its place
Alone, I learned the hard way, no way around it
And even though you broke me, I forgive you
Who would’ve thought that in the end, I wouldn’t need you

Years passed, that young boy is now a man
Still missing his dad like a child does
No matter how hard he tries to understand
What he did wrong for his love not to be returned

He’s tired of waiting now
Little man, you shouldn’t cry
People will never change
Mom would always repeat

How easy it was to be hopeful
Crumbs to mend
So many years of solitude
Young boy, being so alone isn’t that bad

One is born and one dies alone
And though it hurts, well, I’ll be here
Because in the end, life puts everything in its place
Alone, I learned the hard way, no way around it
And even though you broke me, I forgive you
Who would’ve thought that in the end, I wouldn’t need you

What do you think about this songs? Did they resonate with you?
