Shakira’s new song ‘Acróstico’ reminds us of the 20th century that gave us great ballads where her vocal power carried all the emotion of her compositions.
In this release, the artist completely changes the register of her latest hits, to a much softer rhythm, as if it were a lullaby. As we could imagine seeing the cover image of the song (mama bird and her two chicks leaving the nest), the singer from Barranquilla dedicates this verse to her two children: Milán and Sasha.
A lovely musical poem that is full of messages about the situation that the family has gone through after the separation of Shakira and Spanish former soccer player Gerard Piqué.

‘Acróstico’ is a love song of the interpreter towards her kids, whom she has tried to protect from one of the hardest moments for her.
We can see this in the lyrics: “Me enseñaste que el amor no es una estafa, y que cuando es real no se acaba. Intenté que no me veas llorar, que no vieras mi fragilidad” (“You taught me that love is not a scam, and that when it ‘s real it doesn’t end. I tried not to let you see me cry, not to let you see my fragility”), “Y aunque la vida me tratara sí, voy a ser fuerte solo para ti, lo único que quiero es tu felicidad» («And even if life treats me like that, I will be strong only for you, the only thing I want is your happiness».
This verses are accompanied by a lyric-video in which images also play an important role in conveying the message; the metaphors present in the song take on meaning, showing a mother bird building for a long time a nest and a heavy storm falling on her. At the end of the song we can see the 3 flying free to another destination.
Not left behind is the image of the cover of the single that appears in the audio of ‘Acróstico’ on its official YouTube channel. A teddy bear inside a box that is stacked next to other cardboard boxes from a move, next to a sticker of a broken heart that reads, «Fragile. Handle with care».
The romanticism, the melancholy, the love for her children…Shakira’s beating heart beats in this song dedicated to Milán and Sasha.
Following the meaning of ‘Acróstico’, in the beginning of the verses you can find the letters that form the name of her children: Milan and Sasha.
Y estar contigo
Una sonrisa tuya es mi debilidad
Quererte
Sirve de anestesia al dolor
Hace que me sienta mejor
Para lo que necesites estoy
Viniste a completar lo que soy
Sirve de anestesia al dolor
Hace que me sienta mejor
Para lo que necesites estoyShakira in 'Acróstico'
