Shakira Captivates TikTok with a New Choreography

The 'Copa Vacía' hype isn't over yet, now it has its own dance & the singer has revealed the meaning behind the song

If there’s something certain in this world, it’s that Shakira’s hips never lie. Her fans have known this well since 2005, the year when Wyclef Jean officially declared it on the album Oral Fixation Vol. 2. Since then, whenever possible, she has reaffirmed our beliefs through other collaborations, such as «Beautiful Liar» with Beyoncé, «Waka Waka,» or «TQG» with Karol G.  

With one of her latest singles, «Copa Vacía,» the Colombian artist hasn’t missed the opportunity to show us that belly dancing is as present in her current life as it was in the past. This time, she has chosen to create a new choreography for the chorus of the song she shares with Manuel Turizo, captivating social media once again and transporting us to her musical origins. 

Wearing jeans, an orange leaf-shaped top, and her long wavy blonde hair, Shaki enchants us with her sensual dance to the rhythm of the following verses: «And you give nothing but ice / (Oh, oh) I’ve been thirsty for a while / I don’t know why about you / I’m left wanting more / and wanting to drink from an empty glass.» 

The video she has shared on her Instagram profile has already accumulated over a million likes. All of this in just one day! The clip has revolutionized social media to the point that many have requested a «Hips Don’t Lie PT.2» and have commented on how well this new personal and professional phase suits the artist. «Shakira holds the secret to eternal youth»; «Divine»; «You’re the moment» are just a few messages she has received after publishing the post. 

Only a week ago, the creator of «Acróstico» showed a dance that aligns much more with TikTok’s trends –an act that could be performed either solo or with a partner. In that instance, numerous users highlighted that the star’s distinctive style is only attainable for a select few. «This girl moves a finger, and it goes viral! Moving like that is truly remarkable,» a follower expressed. 

«Copa Vacía» has undoubtedly become one of the favorite hits of the summer of 2023. The song keeps accumulating views and climbing positions on the charts, even though they faced some challenges during the video shooting.   

It’s no surprise that the Barranquilla native wants to celebrate this extended success with a hip movement that only a few accomplished individuals in this art form can achieve.
