We all agree that Shakira didn’t go unnoticed at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Her performance, lasting more than ten minutes, where she performed a medley of her greatest hits, went viral on social media for hours. It was a show that celebrated her over 30 years of career and got Taylor Swift dancing.

On her big night, the Barranquilla native didn’t miss the chance to reveal that her next single will be released on September 20th and it’s called ‘El Jefe.’ She disclosed this to Entertainment Tonight when asked about her future plans. Furthermore, Shakira clarified that in this song, she’s not «the boss.»

All signs point to ‘El Jefe’ being a part of her upcoming album, which may also include her recent hits like ‘Copa Vacía,’ a collaboration with Manuel Turizo, ‘Te Felicito’ with Rauw Alejandro, or ‘Monotonía’ featuring Ozuna.

Fans are very excited and eager for the singer’s next track, which seems destined for success. Speculation is rife on social media about whether ‘El Jefe’ could be a collaboration with Peso Pluma. However, as of now, neither of the two artists has publicly confirmed anything.

Shakira’s Experience at the VMAs

It was an unforgettable night for the Colombian, as she became the first Latin American artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award, an honor previously bestowed upon icons like David Bowie, The Beatles with director Richard Lester, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Missy Elliott in previous editions.

But that wasn’t the only award she collected at the gala. The other one was shared in one of the most emotional moments of the night. Alongside Karol G, she won the award for the best collaboration of the year for ‘TQG.’
