The 2023 MTV VMAs has given us some of the most exciting moments. It may have been one of the most intense and emotional ceremonies we remember, a gala full of tributes, memories, and celebrations of the success of our favorite stars, with a great focus on the achievements of female artists and a special look at the stardom of our Latin divas.
Shakira, one of the honorees with the Video Vanguard Award, was one of the stars of the night with a brilliant performance that was the best tribute that could be paid to a legendary career. In ten minutes, the Barranquilla native delivered a stratospheric performance of hits like «Hips Don’t Lie,» «Whenever, Wherever,» «Objection,» and, of course, her recent success, «BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53,» with Argentine producer Bizarrap.
On the other hand, the night’s big winner was Taylor Swift, who recently crowned herself as the most listened-to female artist in the world, and the second most listened-to artist behind only The Weeknd. Swift led the list of nominees with up to 8 nominations, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, and Song of the Year for «Anti-Hero.» And yes, she won all the televised categories she was nominated for! This also sets the record for the most VMAs won in a single night.
At LOS40 USA, we wanted to compile some of the best moments of the night, including the comeback of NSYNC, Sean Diddy’s speech accepting the Global Icon Award, Karol G, Anitta, Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat performances, and the tribute to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop by Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Grandmaster Flash, and LL Cool J.
The Colombian legend delivered one of the most incredible performances that we have ever seen on the MTV VMAs’ stage (and we can even say that in our WHOLE lives). Shakira came back to show how it’s done and we love it, 10 minutes of pure adrenaline that blended her pop hits, with salsa, with hip-hop and even rock and roll!
If something it’s better that seen NSYNC back together for the first time in a decade, is being awarde by them with one of the most coveted prizes of the night. That was the fate of Taylor Swift, who took home the Best Pop Award along with seven other statuettes, breaking all records (again).
Karol G showed who is the queen of the urban genre showcasting a great staging dancing and singing to her latest hits «Oki Doki» and «Tá Ok.»
Hip Hop 50th anniversary took a deserved homage thanks to the incredible performance of Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and LL Cool J, among other artists.
Diddy took home othe of the honor prizes of the night, the Global Icon Award. A well-deserved recognition to a great legacy within hip-hop in the United States.
Olivia Rodrigo dazzled last night with a live performance of her greatest hits from her latest studio album, GUTS: «vampire» and «get him back!.»
Anitta and TXT blew the audience away with their joint performance of «Back For More.» Without a doubt, they left us wanting more.
Metro Boomin, Future, Swae Lee, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and NAV brought the crowd to their feet with an explosive performance that brimmed with rap and flow.
The highly anticipated presentation of Doja Cat left no one indifferent. The artist, who recently starred in one of the most talked about controversies, shined to the rhythm of «Attention,» «Paint The Town Red» and «Demons».
