This is precisely what happened to Selena Gomez. When she revealed the title and official release date of the single, the singer shared the following on her social media: «You’ve been asking for new music for a while. Since I haven’t finished SG3 yet, I wanted to release a fun little song that I wrote a while back and that’s perfect for the end of summer.»

The result? A hit that’s a paragon of pop excellence, enabling you to leave behind your worries, don your finest dress, and hit the streets with your friends for one of the best nights of your life.

Armed with Selena’s statements and the song’s lyrics, some fans of the singer and media outlets began speculating about the song’s inspiration from her past relationship with The Weeknd, which lasted ten months in 2017. These rumors didn’t escape the singer’s notice and she didn’t hesitate to refute them as soon as she had the chance.

She did so by directly commenting on a post from Hollywood Life’s Instagram account, which had amplified these theories. «Couldn’t be more false,» Selena Gomez responded just a few hours ago.

As the artist herself has clarified, the song represents «a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and relishing your own company»: a track that invites you to break it down on the dance floor without dwelling on anything else.
