By now, he’s on his way on becoming a true icon of Regional Mexican Music and corridos tumbados genre, but his influence it’s transcending his music, and a lot of people want to mirror his style, including his haircut.

Haircut

Peso Pluma’s haircut is a mullet with faded sides and blunt bangs. The cut is shorter at the top of the head and sides, and longer at the back. But he has customized it by wearing the sideburns and sides shaved or faded almost flush. His bangs are blunt, combed forward, with no volume, and they cover almost his entire forehead.

Story Behind His Haircut

La Double P confessed to Billboard the story behind his famous haircut. He said that on a trip to Colombia, a barber was giving him a popular haircut of Medellin, assuring he was going to love it. The singer recalls that he hated it at first, but then he liked it after watching it in a music video.

I was like. Wait, actually, se ve bien perro.»

He also said that a barber from Mexico City thank him for giving barbers so much work, since a lot of people, especially teens and kids, have asked Double P’s haircut. His influence has been so, that even a school in Mexico prohibited students’ entrance if they have Peso Pluma’s haircut, or any other that resembles.

But this haircut has transcended ages, and countries, for its not only popular in Mexico and in Latin America, but also in the US, and even people, because the cut has been asked also for dogs.

 «Mullet» Haircut

According to Alan Henderson’s book Mullet Madness, the haircut has been around since prehistoric times. Its purpose has primarily been for comfort, with the front being kept short to enhance visibility, while the longer back provides warmth and protection from the sun.

This hairstyle can be traced back to various ancient civilizations, including Ancient Rome, where it was prevalent, as well as in Greek history, as mentioned by Homer in The Iliad, where he describes the Abantes warriors having this particular hairstyle. The mullet style also had a presence among the Phoenicians and the Egyptians.

In the 80’s the haircut had its golden era when it became a fashion and as a rebel symbol, associated with the musical scene. David Bowie used it for his alter egos Ziggy Stardust, becoming quite popular. But also, artists such as Billy Ray Cyrus and Rod Stewart used it at some point in their career.

In 2003, Scarlett Johansson used it and in 2022 the Mullet haircut became a tendency.
