Yesterday, Olivia Rodrigo visited Jimmy Kimmel’s show, just a few months after releasing her highly anticipated second album ‘GUTS,’ which has already given us some hits like ‘VAMPIRE.’ The young artist, who rose to fame at the age of 17, talked about various interesting topics, including songwriting, fame, and other aspects like her fear of ghosts (hopefully, she won’t have a tough time this Halloween!).

But there’s one aspect that has undoubtedly left Kimmel and none of her big fans expecting, and it has a lot to do with one of the first songs that propelled her to stardom.

Rodrigo’s Hidden Secret

It was during a sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the singer performed with the host and his wife while driving their kids to school. This idea came about because they are big fans of Rodrigo’s music. In fact, their daughter’s favorite song is «ballad of a homeschooled girl,» while their son’s is «get him back!» (there’s a hilarious moment in the clip where Billy suggests that he could kick the guy from the song in a place he wouldn’t like, eliciting laughter from Olivia).

After a car ride singing their favorite songs and creating adorable moments, as both kids seem very surprised and excited to meet one of their idols after she suddenly appeared on the road hitchhiking, Olivia is left alone with the couple in the car and makes the big confession. «Actually, I don’t have a driver’s license,» she says, with a humorous gesture.

Of course, Kimmel’s astonishment didn’t seem fake. This is because one of the hits that the pop diva rose to fame with was a song with that same name, «drivers License.» It was her first single, part of her debut album SOUR. Here, Rodrigo expresses with incredible talent her most intimate feelings, the joyful sensation of getting her driver’s license and being able to visit that special person. However, this happiness turns into anguish when the relationship ends, and she has to drive past her ex’s house.

«I thought you’ve got it last week,» Kimmel sarcastically replies, referring to one of the first lines of the song.

Her Rise to the Top

The singer and songwriter began her career in show business at a very young age, booking her first commercial for Old Navy at just 12 years old and later making her Disney debut at 13. She gained prominence after appearing in shows like «Bizaardvark» and «High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.»

Shortly after, in 2020, she signed with Geffen and Interscope Records, where she released her debut single, «drivers license,» breaking several records. This was followed by her debut studio album SOUR, which earned her three Grammys. Rodrigo has also managed to place three different singles at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, two number one albums on the Billboard 200, and five multi-Platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

A wildly successful career at the tender age of 20. We look forward to welcoming more of Olivia’s successes!
