The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are here! Tonight we’ll find out who the winners are in one of the most important nights in the music industry. It’s a highly anticipated edition with top-notch nominees and performers – we can’t wait any longer!

Taylor Swift (also known as the person who probably breaks the most daily records on earth) leads the pack with a whopping eight nominations, closely followed by SZA with six, and Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith with five each. The K-pop group BLACKPINK, Sean «Diddy» Combs, and Colombian legend Shakira have each received four nominations.

And we have more good news: for the first time since MTV introduced the Artist of the Year category in 2017, all of the nominees are women! Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Karol G, Nicki Minaj, Shakira and Taylor Swift will vie for the well-deserved statuette, a symbol of all the hard work and effort that lies behind a stellar year in their careers. Moreover, this is also the first time that two of the nominees have come from the world of Latin music: our beloved divas, Karol and Shakira.

The highly anticipated ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 12, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The 40th edition promises to be brimming with «unforgettable performances, epic tributes, and showstopping appearances from music’s biggest stars,» as previously announced by MTV. That’s why we’ve dedicated this article to tell you every single detail you need to know and can’t afford to miss in this very special edition.

2023 VMAs Performers

In social media, we’ve already seen that one of the most anticipated performances of the VMAs night will be Shakira’s, who aims to deliver an iconic show representing her brilliant artistic career of nearly 30 years. The artist has already dropped some hints about the songs she will sing and dance to for an audience eager to see her on stage. The Barranquilla native will receive one of the honorary awards this upcoming September 12, the coveted Video Vanguard Award. Another one of these special awards will go to rapper Diddy, who will be receiving the Global Icon Award with a live comeback performance.

Furthermore, the lineup for this edition of the awards couldn’t be better! We’ll witness performances from the top and most influential artists in the scene, including Anitta, Cardi B, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Fall Out Boy, Karol G, Kelsea Ballerini, Lil Wayne, Måneskin, Megan Thee Stallion, Metro Boomin (featuring Future, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Swae Lee, and NAV), Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Peso Pluma.

What collaborations will we see live? We’ll just say that both Karol G and Shakira have been seen wearing knee pads during their rehearsals, and you know how the «TQG» choreography is, right?
