On September 12, we have a date with the 2023 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) to discover the stars behind the best music videos of the year. In this edition, women lead the list of nominations and are the favorites. Taylor Swift is the artist with the most nominations, eight in total, followed closely by SZA, who could win six.

Following them are Doja Cat, Sam Smith, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Nicki Minaj, each with five nominations. Many of them are also nominated in two of the most important categories, Video of the Year and Song of the Year, among others.

However, we already know that a great awards show isn’t complete without a healthy dose of live performances, and this year, the VMAs are bringing a mix of Latin rhythms, rock, and international pop. Why? Because Karol G, Demi Lovato, Måneskin, and Stray Kids are the first confirmed acts to delight the audience and viewers with their musical numbers.

First Confirmed Performers

Colombian artist Karol G is one of the standout names of 2023. Her iconic albums Mañana Será Bonito and Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), along with her first-ever U.S. stadium tour, have been some of the most talked-about projects in recent months. It’s no surprise that she has been chosen to make us dance with hits like «TQG,» «S91,» and «Mi Ex Tenía Razón.»

Demi Lovato and Måneskin, on the other hand, will bring a more intense vibe. Lovato, who will grace the VMA stage after six years, is releasing Revamped on September 15, a compilation album that reinterprets her greatest hits in the rock genre. The Italian band, Måneskin, will also drop a new single, «Honey (Are you coming?),» in early September, so they might perform it from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Lastly, the K-pop boyband, Stray Kids, will bring international pop to the stage. According to Billboard, their TV debut of «S-Class» will showcase their global pop sound and earned them their second VMA nomination in two years for Best K-pop.
