Miley Cyrus continues to share snippets of the documentary ‘Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions),’ which premiered on August 24 on ABC, coinciding with the release of her new single, «Used To Be Young.» In it, she undergoes a retrospective and introspective interview about key moments in her life.
The latest thing she has posted is her account of the exact moment she knew her love story with Liam Hemsworth had come to an end.
«Okay, I want to pause because this is really serious,» she begins. «Glastonbury was in June, the date when I made the decision that both my commitment and Liam’s to stay married simply… It came first from a place of love —because we had been together for 10 years —but also from trauma, where we tried to rebuild ourselves as quickly as possible,» she says. «The day of the concert was the day I decided that being in that relationship wouldn’t work anymore… And that was another moment when I put work, performance, and the character first. And that’s why it’s so important to me now to make sure that doesn’t happen again and that the person comes first.»

As Miley recounts, she was part of the lineup at the Glastonbury Festival in 2019. There, she not only performed her album Plastic Hearts for the audience but also did several covers, including Amy Winehouse’s «Back to Black» and «Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters.»
Reflecting on that era and the studio album, the artist confesses that «when I made Plastic Hearts, life had become very tough for me, so it made sense to create an album that was tough and complicated, but I created this tough-looking alter ego… I even told my therapist: ‘I think I’m getting tougher,’ and she told me that life was tough, so it wasn’t unfounded,» she explains.

«So, I was wearing leather and studs… And when we did the photo shoot for the album cover with the photographer Mick Rock, he told me that this had to be the last rock album he photographed in his life.»
Finally, in August of the same year, the couple separated and eventually filed for divorce in December (officially finalized in February 2020) after eight months of marriage. Then, in 2023, ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ arrived, with songs and hints as direct as «Flowers» or «Muddy Feet.»
In this ‘Endless Summer Vacation: Continued,’ the former Disney girl also details her busy schedule as Hannah Montana, recalls iconic moments like singing alongside Rihanna and Beyoncé, and explains why she didn’t make money from the ‘Bangerz’ tour.
