Daddy Yankee’s ‘Gasolina‘ has marked a before and after in the history of reggaeton, and there is no doubt about it. Even 20 years after its release, there is no party without ‘Gasolina’

The iconic hit is considered to have catapulted Daddy Yankee into mainstream success, marking the beginning of reggaeton’s globalization. Now he has just released a new version featuring Puerto Rican ‘young king’ Myke Towers, remixed by Safari Riot. The collab will be part of the new ‘Fast and Furious‘ movie soundtrack: ‘Fast X‘.

The track has already been released on digital platforms, generating a range of opinions about it. On the one hand, some fans are not entirely convinced by this version, while others have shared their excitement for the return of ‘Gasolina‘ with the collaboration of one of the most promising young reggaeton talents.

What is clear is that the release has caused a real revolution on social media, with reggaeton fans showing more excitement than ever. Daddy Yankee, who was born, grew up, and found success in music in Puerto Rico, has also announced the final concert of his career in the country.

The Story Behind ‘Gasolina

Daddy Yankee and Myke Towers recently collaborated on ‘ULALA‘, which is part of Myke’s latest album ‘LA VIDA ES UNA. «‘ULALA’ was a unique experience because it was the first time Daddy Yankee had collaborated on one of my songs, and it was also my first time working with Play-n-Skillz. The intention was to create a global song, and there was no one better than the great Daddy Yankee to bring it to life», has Myke stated.

The story of ‘Gasolina‘ is also noteworthy. It was released as the lead single for Yankee’s third studio album ‘Barrio Fino‘, and it was the first reggaeton song to be nominated for Record of the Year at the 2005 Latin Grammys, where the album won the award for Best Urban Music Album. The timeless hit recently became the first reggaeton song to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.

Daddy Yankee wrote these emotional words on his Instagram profile:

«For that ‘chamaco’ who grew up in Santurce, «Gasolina» was born in a neighborhood of Puerto Rico; be recognized by the ‘Library of Congress’ as one of the songs that transformed the culture, changed the musical history in the world and the U.S. is something I never dreamed of. And the most beautiful thing is that it was in Spanish. When you do things with love, passion, determination and discipline and, to all that, you add the support of all my beautiful people for more than three decades everything you dream of can be possible»Daddy Yankee
