In 2007, two talented creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, brought us a TV series that became a huge sensation in the world of teen dramas. The show revolved around a group of privileged teenagers living in Manhattan’s upscale Upper East Side, where they had to navigate the challenges of wealth, power, and prestige. Today is the 16th anniversary, and we’re here to celebrate it.
XOXO, Gossip Girl
The story followed these wealthy high school students, and their every move was closely watched and documented by an anonymous blogger known as ‘Gossip Girl.’ The show’s famous opening line, ‘You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl,’ became a symbol of the show’s mix of scandal, fashion, and drama.
At the heart of the series were Serena van der Woodsen–played by Blake Lively– and Blair Waldorf–played by Leighton Meester–, two best friends with very different personalities.
Their friendship and occasional rivalry, as well as their impeccable fashion sense, were central to the series. The cast, of course, included memorable characters like Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), and Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), each with their own secrets and complexities.
The fashion on Gossip Girl was a standout element, with Blair’s headbands and Serena’s effortlessly chic style. The characters’ fashion choices were just as important as the storyline itself, making it a style reference for a generation.
The show ran for six seasons, concluding in 2012. In 2021, a reboot of Gossip Girl was launched, introducing a new group of privileged teens and giving the series a modern twist. However, the original Gossip Girl will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans who fondly remember the scandalous, glamorous, and captivating world of Serena, Blair, and the mysterious Gossip Girl.

After bidding farewell to Gossip Girl, Blake found herself in the spotlight of Hollywood. In 2010, while working on Green Lantern, she crossed paths with Ryan Reynolds, and sparks flew instantly. Just a year later, they officially became a couple, and in 2012, they tied the knot. Since then, they’ve become one of the most adored pairs in the realm of celebrities, known for their affectionate yet humorous public displays of affection. Today, they remain happily together, raising four children as a family.
Before taking on the role of Blair Waldorf, Meester had already established herself with a modest career in both independent cinema and television, where she had a significant presence. In her personal life, during the filming of The Oranges in 2010, she crossed paths with actor Adam Brody, widely recognized for his portrayal of Seth Cohen in another 2000s sensation series: The O.C. Today, they remain a couple and proud parents of two children.
In today’s landscape, Penn Badgley has achieved acclaim for his portrayal of Joe Goldberg in the renowned Netflix series, You. This role marks a stark departure from his character in Gossip Girl as he takes on the persona of a psychopathic murderer.

Even though they continued working together on the series after their romantic relationship ended, their professionalism prevailed, and they had no issues during filming.
