Billboard’s first-ever Mujeres Latinas en la Música event has been one of the more awaited ones in the scene. Especially taking into account the massive success that these latin and urban music queens represent to the genre.
The inaugural edition of the ceremony honored female artists, such as Shakira, Thalia, Ana Gabriel, Goyo or Emilia Mernes, among other iconic singers, but also recognized the work behind the scenes of women producers and executives. The gala, held at the Watsco Cente in Miami, aired exclusively in Telemundo on Sunday 7 May.
And we have to say it was a very touching and exciting night that left us many highlights to remember!
“I’m very nervous but also very excited. As a fan, I’m next to none other than the queen of reggaeton!”, screamed Jacky Bracamontes in the beginning of the ceremony, demonstrating the great admiration she has for Ivy Queen. And we understand her: having one of the female icons in reggaeton history in this special night was simply iconic!
Thalia was one of the main protagonists of the night thanks to her stunning outfits and powerful opening of the ceremony. She performed timeless hits like ‘Amor a la Mexicana’, ‘A quién le importa’ and ‘Desde Esa Noche’.
Thalia also won the applause of the audience when she delivered a powerful speech after taking the Global Powerhouse Award. “To all you women chingonas ovariudas here, don’t get distracted. Keep going with your objectives, your dreams. Don’t let anyone take them from you!”, she stated.

The Colombian queen came to the stage among great applauses to deliver a speech that has surely left a mark for all Latin women artists.
“This is too much for me, too much”, she confessed, visibly touched, while the crowd chanted her name. “This year I felt more than ever what it is like to be a woman. We women are stronger than we think. We are braver than we think we are. And I believe we are more independent than what they taught us to be”, she said in the beginning of her statement.
