Anne Hathaway remains one of Hollywood’s most prominent actresses to this day, but she has also grown under the unforgiving spotlight of Hollywood. She has been recognized for her uniquely captivating beauty –characterized by a wide smile, enormous brown eyes, and hair that beautifully contrasts with her fair complexion. However, navigating this industry, which places a premium on both youth and beauty, has brought forth its own set of challenges.

In an interview with TODAY’s Sheinelle Jones, she discussed the experience of maturing, or, in a sense, ‘growing old,’ in the glare of fame. And before even beginning, let’s face it, almost everyone is terrified of growing old, as not only does Hollywood praise youth and beauty, but so does social media, the workplace, and even ourselves.
Hathaway opened up about about how different her life perspective when she was younger. At her 20s she remembered being afraid of everything, and actually being excited about things when she reached her 30s. Now, at her 40s, she confessed being comfortable in her own skin, and how much kinder she is to herself and to others. She also confessed whether or not she finds the phrase, ‘You look good for your age’ to be a backhanded compliment.
I don’t think about age. To me, aging is another word for living. So, if people want to pay a compliment, it’s nice. But whatever the hype is, I’m interested in what’s beyond the concept of hype.”

During the interview, the actress reflected on how the entertainment industry was different during her adolescence, marked by strict age limits that she herself experienced. Nowadays, the industry has become more flexible in this regard, and Hathaway admires the freedom with which young people can live today. Finally, she expressed how much she loves to imagine how far young people can go if they overcome these restrictions imposed by age perception.
She embarked on her acting career in theater and television before making her transition to the silver screen. Her journey to international fame began with her portrayal of the young princess Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries. Subsequently, she captured the hearts of numerous teenagers with her role in Ella Enchanted in 2004.
Hathaway’s remarkable acting talent has led her to embrace a diverse range of roles. Notable highlights include her appearances in films such as Brokeback Mountain in 2005, a essential role in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006 alongside Meryl Streep, and Rachel Getting Married in 2008, which earned her a well-deserved Academy Award nomination. However, it was her exceptional performance in the adaptation of Les Misérables in 2012 that earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
