On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk—a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA—was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was presenting on behalf of his political youth organization. He was 31.

The attack took place around noon during the first stop of Kirk’s ‘American Comeback Tour,’ held outdoors on the UVU campus. A single shot, fired from approximately 200 yards away, struck him directly in the neck. Deseret News reporter Emma Pitts, who was present at the event, said Kirk was answering his second question—one about mass shootings.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene: one observer said they heard the shot and saw Kirk’s neck moved suddenly as blood flowed. People began to scatter, and some films captured the shooting on video.

Campus authorities quickly evacuated the area and canceled all classes. Within hours, President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on social media, calling him “legendary” and urging the nation to pray for his family. Politicians from both sides condemned the shooting and called for an end to political violence. The FBI and ATF immediately joined local law enforcement to investigate.

Who Was Charlie Kirk?

Born in 1993 in Illinois, Charlie Kirk rose to prominence after founding Turning Point USA in 2012, a campus-focused conservative organization. He expanded its reach into Turning Point Action, Academy, Faith, and more. An outspoken figure, Kirk was a favorite on conservative media and a key voice for youth mobilization in GOP politics.

He was often by President Trump’s side. Especially during the 2024 campaign—and was known for his direct, combative style on culture-war issues. He hosted a popular talk show and podcast that reached hundreds of thousands daily. He is survived by his wife, podcaster Erika Frantzve, and their two children.

Seeing Charlie Kirk die in such a violent moment at a university event has stunned his supporters and critics alike.
